One Punch Man is a Japanese action-comedy series created by ONE, that began as a webcomic in 2009. The webcomic gained a significant fanbase, accumulating over 7 million views as of 2012. A digital manga remake of the series began in 2012 on Tonari no Young Jump, featuring illustrations by Yusuke Murata. An anime adaptation of the series produced by Madhouse began in October 2015, and boosted the series’ popularity even further.

One Punch Man follows the daily life of Saitama, a superhero whose strength is so great that any opponent he faces is defeated in one hit. This leads Saitama to become bored with the superhero lifestyle, as he believes there is no excitement in an easy fight.

Saitama is the protagonist of One Punch Man. He is the B-Class hero known as the Caped Baldy. Thanks to his intense training, he has gained immense physical strength and durability, though this was at the cost of losing all of his hair. Although he may call it intense training in truth it is nothing but basic training leaving many of the characters confused as well as unbelieving. They all believe Saitama is lying and just doesn't want to tell them the secret behind his strength. The gap between the deep backstory of his opponents compared to Saitama deciding to be a Hero as a hobby causes many laughs for the readers. Saitama has a down-to-earth personality which doesn’t really fit in with the One Punch Man world. He doesn’t act shocked when his house breaks down, merely annoyed at the thought of having to repair it and people bargaining in unannounced.

Genos is the S-class hero known as Demon Cyborg. He is a very cool and strong-looking character who is also the apprentice of Saitama. Genos is a cyborg who fights using the various mechanical parts within him, such as incineration cannons, arm blades, and boosters. He doesn’t usually show much of his emotions and keeps his cool apart from when his Master Saitama is being insulted or his authority is being underestimated. Genos became Saitama’s apprentice because he wanted to grow stronger. The place where he grew up was destroyed by an evil cyborg resulting in Genos’s whole family and friends being wiped out. He only survived thanks to a kind doctor who saved him and turned him into a cyborg. Genos wishes to take revenge so he is continuously searching for a way to become stronger.

Tatsumaki is an esper, meaning she has psychic-related powers. Tatsumaki is capable of using her mind to move large objects at high speeds with minimal effort.
