Akko (Atsuko Kagari) Little Witch Academia - Nendoroid

Although the Little Witch Academia franchise first began as a short film released by Studio Trigger as a part of the Young Animator Training Project in 2013, fans quickly became captivated by its magical setting and quirky characters. After the sequel film and television series that followed, fans were quick to voice their desires for merchandise based on fan-favorite characters from the series. Of course, this is especially true for the protagonist of the series, Atsuko Kagari, whose cheerful and eager personality made for an endearing character to drive the plot forward. As such, Good Smile Company would go on to have multiple waves of a Nendoroid of the protagonist, the most recent being the "Nendoroid Little Witch Academia Atsuko "Akko" Kagari (Re-run)", which was released in December 2018.

Nendoroid Little Witch Academia Atsuko Kagari (Re-run)

This chibi-style figure of Atsuko has her wearing the uniform of her school, the Luna Nova Magical Academy. This uniform is composed of a bluish-purple dress with long, wide sleeves, a red belt that sits loosely around her waist, a pair of matching knee-high boots with red straps, and a wide-brimmed witch's hat. This figure also comes with several different extra pieces and points of articulation to allow for many different poses and other possibilities. Such pieces include her broom, her wand, the Shiny Rod, and a pair of rabbit ears. Three different face plates also let one change her expression from smiling to surprised, to fascinated. Atsuko's hat is also removable as well, giving its owner even more customizability.

About Atsuko "Akko" Kagari: Background

In her childhood, Atsuko Kagari was greatly influenced by Shiny Chariot, who was a magical performer. Although Shiny Chariot was well received by many people who were unfamiliar with magic, she had an infamously poor reputation among those in the greater magical community. Despite this, Atsuko was influenced by Chariot enough for her to want to become a witch herself, despite having virtually no talent or knowledge regarding magic herself. Many students at Luna Nova see Atsuko as impulsive and reckless, yet cheerful and optimistic. That said, when Atsuko's antics do not put her and her friends in grave danger they often end up in them getting in trouble with school, much to her dismay. In the end, however, her desire to become more like Shiny Chariot is enough for her to overcome the opinions of others and the obstacles in her way.

About Atsuko "Akko" Kagari: Abilities

Since she was originally from a mundane background, Atsuko has to work much harder than the other students at Luna Nova to use magic properly. As such, she struggled greatly to use magical abilities like broom flying and transformation magic at a basic level. That said, one of Atsuko's greatest strengths is that she acknowledges her shortcomings and is determined enough to overcome them. Despite her lack of magical ability, Atsuko is able to wield the Shiny Rod, a powerful magical artifact that was once owned by Shiny Chariot. The staff often responds to Atsuko in times when emotions are running high and allows her to transform into things like a bow or a broom.

Other Important Little Witch Academia Characters

Among the large cast of students, teachers, and other characters in Little Witch Academia, two of the most important to Atsuko would be her roommates and closest friends, Sucy Manbavaran and Lotte Jansson.

Sucy Manbavaran

Sucy Manbavaran is a young witch studying at Luna Nova and one of Atsuko's roommates. Even among other witches, Sucy is known for having especially peculiar tastes and hobbies, many of which stem from her fondness of alchemy and mushrooms. Although she is often viewed as apathetic, tired, and aloof, Sucy does indeed care for her friends like Atsuko. That said, Sucy often forces her to be a guinea pig for her many experimental potions. Despite her peculiar habits, Sucy's skill in alchemy and potion brewing is hard to beat, especially considering that Sucy is immune to poisons and toxins herself.

Lotte Jansson

Lotte Jansson is a witch-in-training from Finland and, like Sucy, is another roommate of Atsuko's. Many view Lotte as shy, timid, and hard to anger, but she is very diligent in her studies. When it comes to basic magical skills, Lotte is more than competent, though her specialty is her ability to communicate with spirits without the direct use of magic. By using a song from her hometown, Lotte can calm angry spirits, ask them for information, or have them help with a number of different spells. Although she often keeps to herself, Lotte also often worries about Atsuko and, at times, believes that her burning desire to become more like Shiny Chariot may end up becoming her downfall.
