Kamina Gurren Lagann - Nendoroid

Since its original airing in 2007, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann has become a classic anime series loved by many fans in the greater otaku community. Although the story largely focuses on its protagonist, Simon, the bombastic and courageous Kamina is often listed as fans' favorite character in the series. His desire to overcome any challenge he is faced with resonated with both fans and Simon alike caused his popularity to explode very quickly, which eventually resulted in plenty of different merchandise based on Kamina to be made to this day. Of course, this also includes Good Smile Company's Nendoroid line, which released the "Nendoroid Gurren Lagann Kamina" figure in 2018.

This figure of Kamina features him wearing his iconic attire, which is composed of a pair of black pants, a white belt, a pair of sandals, and his crimson cape with the emblem of Team Gurren on it. While this Nendoroid comes with a smug smirking expression that befits Kamina's often confident personality, it also includes two other face plates as well: a proud shouting expression and a relieved battle-worn expression. These expressions, as well as other accessories like interchangeable arms, two pairs of Kamina's sunglasses, and his sword allow owners to recreate many defining moments from the anime or use their imagination to create something new.

About Kamina: Background

Kamina was born in an underground village in the world of Gurren Lagann known as Giha Village, which is the home of its protagonist Simon as well. Although he is incredibly charismatic and confident, the impulsive side of his personality often causes Kamina to end up in trouble with the village leader. Despite humans supposedly being forced to stay underground, Kamina strives to roam the surface and explore the unseen world that lies above them. His ideals and confidence inspire Simon to break out of his shell and follow him to the surface. Later, Kamina and Simon create Team Gurren along with several other people that made it to the surface. This group led the fight against the Beastmen, the main group forcing humans underground. No matter who stood in their way, Kamina would always stand to face the challenge.

About Kamina: Abilities

Throughout the series, Kamina shows that he is an incredibly powerful fighter with an impressive amount of stamina and endurance. One may believe that this physical strength may have come from his life in Giha Village, as its people are known for expanding their territory via demanding tunnel work. Aside from his physical capabilities, Kamina is also a natural-born leader who has charming charisma that many are drawn to. In addition, when it comes to battle, he also shows himself as being a quick learner who can pick up an unfamiliar weapon and use it effectively in a short amount of time. Like most other humans, Kamina also has the ability to use Spiral Power, which is often described as the power of evolution and the desire to persevere.

As the leader of Team Gurren, Kamina comes across many different characters in the world of Gurren Lagann. That said, two of the most important characters to Kamina would be Simon and Yoko Littner.

Simon

Simon is the protagonist of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and, like Kamina, grew up in Giha Village. While tunneling through the ground one day, he stumbles upon a small drill and a head-shaped robot that he and Kamina decide to call Lagann. Despite being a meek young boy, Simon is greatly inspired by Kamina's charisma and confidence, causing him to see Kamina much like an older brother. As time goes on, Kamina continues to influence Simon, eventually resulting in Simon fully overcoming his lack of confidence. After Kamina steals another robot from a Beastman, Simon uses Lagann to combine the two robots to create the titular Gurren Lagann, which then becomes the main fighting force for Team Gurren.

Yoko Littner

Yoko Littner is a young woman who grew up in the Littner Village, which neighbored Simon and Kamina's Giha Village. Before the events of the series began, Yoko's village suffered from a leak of poisonous gas, causing them to travel to the surface despite the dangers it presented. This eventually led her to stumble upon Simon and Kamina, who took the opportunity presented to them and traveled to the surface. Yoko is also known for her iconic red hair and her proficiency with firearms, particularly her sniper rifle. While Yoko has a hot-headed side to her personality, she is generally one of the more calm and rational members of Team Gurren. Because of this, she often butts heads with Kamina, whose spontaneous decisions usually throw wrenches in her plans. Despite this, however, Yoko eventually falls for Kamina, and the two develop a romantic relationship for a short time.
