Kazuma Sato KonoSuba - Nendoroid

KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! (usually shortened to simply KonoSuba) is a popular comedic fantasy isekai series that first began as a series of light novels that were written by Natsume Akatsuki. Following the series' anime adaptation by Studio Deen in 2016, the franchise exploded in popularity in both Japan and around the world. With its sudden boost in popularity, a wide range of merchandise based on KonoSuba was produced for fans to purchase and collect. Among these, figures that recreate fan-favorite KonoSuba characters are some of the most popular. While characters like Aqua, Megumin, and Yunyun certainly have a large following of their own, many fans may think that the protagonist of KonoSuba, Kazuma Sato, is a hallmark of the series overall. As such, Good Smile Company released the "Nendoroid KonoSuba 2 Kazuma" figure in 2018.

Nendoroid KonoSuba 2 Kazuma

This Nendoroid takes Kazuma's appearance from the second season of the anime adaptation of KonoSuba. It has him wearing his usual adventuring attire, which consists of a simple white and gray shirt, black slacks, brown boots, and a green and yellow mantle. While he comes with a standard smile right out of the box, this figure set also includes two other face plates with exaggerated expressions that look like they came straight out of the anime. These plates let owners change Kazuma's expression to a desperate shout or devious grin. Other additional accessories included in this set are a Create Water effect part, Kazuma's sword, Chunchunmaru, and a pair of underwear that Kazuma likely stole with his Steal skill. In addition to these extra pieces, the various points of articulation in this figure make it easy to customize and recreate their favorite scenes from the series.

About Kazuma Sato: Background

Before his untimely death, Kazuma was a young Japanese student who spent most of his time living alone in his room. On his way home from buying a new game, he attempted to save someone from being hit by a tractor and ended up dying in the process. When he comes to, he is greeted by the goddess Aqua, who informs him that his heroic attempt was in vain and that no one was in danger to begin with. After berating Kazuma, Aqua then tells him that, although Kazuma died, she can send him to another world with all of his memories, knowledge, and any one overpowered item or skill that she can offer him. To get back for teasing him, Kazuma selects Aqua herself as the thing to take with him to this new world. Now in an unfamiliar landscape, Kazuma is faced with a hoard of challenges, one of which is the previously pampered and demanding Aqua, who Kazuma handles with his sarcastic and cynical personality.

About Kazuma Sato: Abilities

When it comes to Kazuma's abilities as an adventurer, most of his stats are painfully average, though he does have fairly high intelligence and surprisingly high luck stats. Although these are said to not be very important stats for adventurers, Kazuma's background with RPGs allows him to create a combination of skills and strategies that work quite well for him. Such skills include Steal, Auto-dodge, and Deadly Backstab, which are each more effective the higher one's luck stat is. Steal allows Kazuma to take a random item from an area without physically touching it. The higher one's luck stat is, the greater chances one has to steal a specific item or an item of greater value. The other two skills, Auto-dodge and Deadly Backstab allow Kazuma to avoid attacks without thinking and kill a target with one hit respectively. Aside from these luck-based skills, Kazuma also has access to magic like Create Earth, Create Water, Fireball, Lightning, and Wind Breath.

Other Important KonoSuba Characters

Although Kazuma comes across many wild and wacky characters throughout his adventures, two of the most important would be Aqua and Megumin.

About Aqua

Aqua is a goddess of water who assisted humans in passing on into their next life before she was forced to join Kazuma in his quest to defeat the Demon Lord. Although she is generally cheerful and supportive, Aqua is often childish, impulsive, and stubborn. Her antics and rash decisions often draw the ire of Kazuma, as they often result in him and the others' financial issues. Aqua also has a fondness for alcohol that can easily get out of hand when left unchecked. Kazuma may like to call Aqua useless at times, but as an adventurer, Aqua's ability to heal and purify has saved Kazuma several times.

About Megumin

Megumin is a Crimson Demon Arch Wizard and the first person to join Kazuma and Aqua's party. Like many other Crimson Demons, Megumin is very skilled with magic and is capable of casting advanced-level magic. That said, Megumin chooses to spend all of her skill points on improving her Explosion spell. As such, she is only capable of casting Explosion once a day, since she never adds points to improve her mana. In terms of personality, Megumin is a very proud, yet quirky and theatrical individual. She often touts her own abilities, despite nearly passing out after using her single use of Explosion for a given day. Furthermore, Megumin is entirely obsessed with Explosion magic and sees it as a way of life rather than a simple spell.
