About Chrollo Lucilfer: Background
The founder and leader of the Phantom Troupe, Chrollo, is considered irreplaceable in the troupe, despite being seventh in the troupe for physical strength. He is shown to be a very level-headed intelligent leader and can glue the troupe together despite the members' clashing personalities.
He is also shown to be cold-blooded and devoid of emotions. He led the genocide against the Kurta Clan and will act hostile to most. However, despite his cold persona, we also see glimpses of passion and care for his troupe members. He thinks the troupe is more important than his own life and does what he can to ensure the survival of the troupe. Chrollo also seems to shed tears for the prophecy of Uvogin’s death and feels despair at the death of Kortopi and Shalnark. His cold nature is also seen when he befriends Neon Nostrade to abuse her fortune-telling ability and take what he wants from her.
About Chrollo Lucilfer: Abilities
Chrollo is a highly talented fighter and leader. Despite being the seventh strongest member of the troupe, he is noted to be one of the strongest in combat. His exceptional fighting skills are apparent when he can fight Silva and Zeno Zoldyck, two assassins, without receiving any damage. Zeno also states that if Chrollo set out to kill him, he was unsure whether he would be the one to win.
Chrollo is a Specialist, and his talent for Nen is genius-level. A level unheard of at his age and even compared against the masters. He is able to maintain a state of Ten at any time and can use Ken as well. Hatsu is also a technique he commonly uses, and he can use the method in various situations. Chrollo’s Nen ability allows him to steal the Nen abilities of others and use them as his own. These stolen abilities are listed in a book called “Bandit’s Secret,” and he can use the skills through this book. The person whose power is stolen can no longer use their ability.
There are four strict conditions, and only when these conditions have been met can the abilities have been stolen: Chrollo must witness the Nen ability, he must ask questions about the Nen and answer the victim, the victim must touch the handprint on the cover of the “Bandit’s Secret”, and the three conditions must be acted out within the hour. On multiple occasions, Chrollo has been able to steal the abilities of others, including abilities such as “Indoor Fish” or “Fun Fun Cloth”.
Other Important Hunter x Hunter Characters
Chrollo is a unique character, and due to his cold-blooded nature, he seemingly does not have any strong relations with others. Yet, despite this appearance, we see glimpses of care for his fellow troupe members and even shed tears when Uvogin dies.
Kurapika
Kurapika is the last survivor of the Kurta Clan and is a Blacklist hunter. He is the last survivor of the clan which the Phantom Troupe, which Chrollo leads, massacred. The troupe sold their eyes on the black market, and Kurapika vowed to avenge his clan members' death and arrest all of the troupe. Later Kurapika manages to capture Chrollo and uses his “Judgement Chain” to prohibit Chrollo from using his “Bandit’s Secret”.
Hisoka Morow
Hisoka Morow is a hunter and was a former member of the Phantom Troupe. He has an unhealthy obsession with fighting and continues to take on strong or those who have the potential to become strong. After losing against Chrollo, his obsessive nature takes a turn for the worst, as he vows to kill the Phantom Troupe members. When he finds out that Kurapika has sealed Chrollo’s Nen, he sets out to figure out a way to break the seal and, after doing so, goes on a killing rampage, leading him to be hunted by the Phantom Troupe.
