About Dabi (Toya Todoroki): Background

Born Toya Todoroki, Dabi is the eldest son of Enji Todoroki. His father sought to make him the successor as a child due to his potent Quirk. Dabi was a lively child in his childhood and was very eager to learn new techniques. However, his father shifted his attention to the younger sibling Shoto. As a result, this leads to Dabi's state of depression. This upbringing leads to his obsession with being acknowledged and he is hell-bent on bringing his father down.

Dabi's childhood becomes the base in creating the calm-minded, sadistic and cold person we see. He enjoys taunting the professional heroes and attempts to murder them on multiple occasions. He is willing to endanger the lives of others, even his allies.

About Dabi (Toya Todoroki): Abilities

Dabi's Quirk is called cremation and allows him to form a destructive blue flame. He has spectacular control over the flame and can project it far away. His flame also is more potent than his father's Quirk and becomes stronger when Dabi is emotional. However, inheriting his mother's resistance to freezing temperatures means he will get burned if he uses it for long periods. Notably, he has Super Moves called Flashfire Fist, which allows him to deal with a destructive flame attack and drastically increase his speed.

His strength also lies in his training at a young age and his genius intelligence. Due to being trained from a young age, he is well versed in fighting and has insane stamina levels. His immense stamina allows him to withstand and endure battles regardless of injuries.

Dabi is also very observant and can read people's intentions and weaknesses. As a result, he psychologically engages with enemies during combat to throw them off. His quicking thinking allows him to adapt to the situations and use his Quirk effectively without overworking himself.

Other Important My Hero Academia Characters

Being a criminal hero has meant that Dabi has often negatively affected people's lives. However, he has had his own trauma, and despite all of it, he shows some compassion towards the members of the League of Villains on rare occasions.

Himiko Toga

Dabi values Himiko Toga as an ally. When the two first meet, he calls her crazy, but his opinions later change and often bicker. The two share the similarity of admiring Stain's ideology. Himiko showed concern for Dabi when his arm was sizzling from the fire, and when Twice passed away, he showed concern to Himiko and even gave her his blood, as he knew about Himiko and Twice's close relationship.

Enji Todoroki/Endeavor

Endeavor is Dabi's father, whom Dabi holds an irrefutable grudge against. The initial relationship between the two was of a typical son and father. However, he halts his training when Endeavor realizes that Toya could not become stronger without hurting himself. Not being able to share his aspirations to become a hero, Endeavor does not know how to interact with Dabi and avoids him. As a result, Dabi falls into a pit of depression and starts to resent his father for abandoning him. This resentment continues to grow inside of Dabi and leads to creating the sadistic villain.

Tomura Shigaraki

Dabi and Tomura Shigaraki are comrades and are a part of the League of Villains. When they first meet, they do not get along, and Dabi goes as far to insult Tomura and doubts the League's alliance to Stain's ideology. However, they soon become comrades, and Dabi trusts Tomura. Dabi also seems to respect Tomura and his power but also seemingly does not care about the League itself and says he was using it to further his goal.
