OtapediaMy Hero Academia Funko Pop - Merchandise

My Hero Academia is a popular manga and anime series that first began as a manga written and illustrated by Kohei Horikoshi that was published in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2014. The manga series is still being published today and has spawned an anime adaptation spanning several seasons, two theatrically released films, and multiple manga spin-off series. The series quickly saw great success and has since exploded in popularity both in Japan and overseas. Many fans praise Horikoshi’s manga for its charming underdog story and its unique character designs, personalities, and superpowers (which are called “quirks” in the series). Like many other shonen series, My Hero Academia has a rather large cast of characters that each have their own goals, personal motivations, and backstories. This aspect of My Hero Academia lends itself very well to character-based merchandise like figures. One particularly popular brand of figures is Funko Pop, which are known for being affordable and generally easy to find. Some of the most popular My Hero Academia Funko Pop figures include the “Pop! Animation: My Hero Academia - Deku (Training)” figure, the “Pop! Animation: My Hero Academia - Todoroki” figure, the “Pop! Animation: My Hero Academia - Tsuyu” figure, and the “Pop! Animation: My Hero Academia - Shota Aizawa” figure.

Pop! Animation: My Hero Academia - Deku (Training)

This Funko Pop figure features the protagonist Deku in his white and blue UA training outfit and characteristic red shoes. Although this Funko Pop has no mouth, Deku’s face has a determined expression on it that is accompanied by four black freckles on each side of his face and his usual dark green hair. This version of Deku is posed with a wide stance. He has one arm bracing the other, which is held like he is about to flick someone with one of his fingers. This pose is likely inspired by Deku as he appears in the U.A. Sports Festival Tournament, as he made extensive use of his fingers to activate his incredibly powerful inherited quirk, One for All, during that specific arc.

Pop! Animation: My Hero Academia - Todoroki

Much like the Deku figure before it, this Todoroki Funko Pop has the character in UA’s training uniform. The figure encapsulates many of the unique aspects of Todoroki’s design, like his white and red hair, the burn scar on the left side of his face, and his quirk, Half-Cold Half-Hot. Though Todoroki is often calm and composed, this figure shows him with a look of determination on his face. He is posed with his feet spread apart with both fire and ice covering most of his body as if he were preparing to attack. This pose is inspired by a rather important moment in Todoroki’s life, the moment when Deku managed to convince him to use the fire part of his quirk despite it reminding him of his detestable father.

Pop! Animation: My Hero Academia - Tsuyu

This adorable Funko Pop is based on the character Tsuyu Asui in her hero costume. Her green suit includes large tan-colored gloves while her “shoes” make her feet shaped just like a frog’s, allowing her to jump higher and swim faster in the series. The figure also includes other notable aspects of Tsuyu’s design, like her giant hair bow, her unique bottom eyelashes, and her long tongue that is seen poking out of her mouth. She is also posed in a crouching position with one hand down at the ground to help keep her balance while the other is held out cautiously to her side, perhaps in anticipation of an opponent attack.

Pop! Animation: My Hero Academia - Shota Aizawa

Although Mr. Aizawa may be an incredibly powerful hero and the teacher of the main characters in My Hero Academia, this Funko Pop figure shows off his lazier side. He may be in his hero outfit, but his messy black hair, unkempt facial hair, and drowsy, half-open eyelids make him seem like he will just lay down and take a nap at any given moment. This figure of Mr. Aizawa is casually posed with one hand in his pocket with the other holding out the signature scarf that he uses to subdue his opponents.

About Funko Pop Figures

Funko Pop figures are a rather popular brand of vinyl figures that have made their way across the United States. The brand’s wide variety of figures all take on a chibi-like appearance with enlarged heads, black round eyes (with some exceptions), and proportionally small bodies. Although some figures of actual people have been created, many Funko Pop figures take the appearance of various pop culture characters from a host of various kinds of media and entertainment series like Star Wars, Marvel movies and comic books, anime, and video games. A large number of fans enjoy Funko Pops for their incredible variety and affordability, as there are often hundreds of figures in each Funko Pop line and generally go for between $8 and $20 each, though some avid collectors may end up spending hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on a specific rare figure.
