About Danganronpa

The Danganronpa series began as a visual novel-style of game that focuses on various different protagonists in each game. Although nearly all of the characters are different in each game, the main premise remains constant. A group of characters that are incredibly adept at a specific skill is gathered into a closed building and given an ultimatum by the mastermind of a deadly game, who is often a robotic bear named Monokuma. They are told that, in order to escape, they must literally get away with murdering someone else in their group. After a murder has taken place, a trial is held where the group attempts to bring the murderer to light. If they are successful, the murderer is executed. However, if they fail, the rest of the group is killed and the murderer gains their freedom. That said, each game has its own quirky characters to get to know, a unique story to enjoy, and plenty of secrets to uncover. An anime adaptation of the first game was produced by studio Lerche and began airing in 2013. Later, in 2016, another anime called Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School produced and featured two separate series that aired simultaneously: “Side: Despair” and “Side: Future”. The former series acts as a prequel to the original games while the latter completes the original “Hope’s Peak Academy” storyline.
