Izuku Midoriya (Deku) Funko Pop My Hero Academia - Merchandise
The popular manga and anime series My Hero Academia began as a manga series written and illustrated by Kohei Horikoshi and published in Weekly Shonen Jump. In the spring of 2016, the first season of the anime adaptation of the series was aired to incredible reception, causing the popularity of the series to surge once again. Today, the series has four different anime seasons, two video games, two theatrically released movies, and several OVAs (original video animations). Like many different shonen series that came before it, My Hero Academia has a rather large cast of characters that have an incredibly diverse range of personalities and appearances. Of course, one such character is the protagonist of the series, Izuku Midoriya (hero name/nickname: Deku). The interesting green design of the character and his unwavering determination has caused many fans to enjoy his character as he overcomes the struggles trying to prevent him from becoming the number 1 hero. Due to his popularity, many different kinds of figures, apparel, plushies, and other merchandise depicting his likeness have been released in recent years. One example of this kind of merchandise is Funko Pop figures. Although there are a number of Funko Pop figures based on My Hero Academia characters, Deku himself has several dedicated to him alone. Some of the most popular Deku Funko Pop figures have been chosen and will be showcased below. These items are the “Pop! Animation: My Hero Academia - Deku (Training)”, “Pop! Animation: My Hero Academia - Deku”, and the “Pop! Keychain: My Hero Academia - Deku”.
Pop! Animation: My Hero Academia - Deku (Training)
This Funko Pop figure of Deku shows him dressed up in his UA High School training outfit and iconic red shoes. The outfit itself is mainly blue, but has lines of white drawn around the suit in a way that spells out “UA”. Of course, his unusual messy dark green hair is present as well, as are his four black freckles on each of his cheeks. This figure seems to have been inspired by the UA Sports Festival tournament, as the pose he takes has him bracing one of his arms with the other. The arm being braced is held out like Deku was about to flick someone, which was how Deku used One for All at the time. The figure’s knees are also bent and its eyebrows are furrowed, further adding to the intensity of the figure’s pose.
Pop! Animation: My Hero Academia - Deku
Unlike the Deku (Training) Funko Pop figure, this version of Deku features him in his hero outfit. The outfit itself is colored a blue-green color, though he also wears a red pair of shoes and a red utility belt that gives the outfit a bit of variety. His iconic dark green hair is also present, as are his four black freckles on each cheek. His furrowed brow, bent knees, and wide stance make it seem like he is about to use his quirk to launch himself at his opponent and deliver a powerful kick with the added reinforcements made to his costume.

Pop! Keychain: My Hero Academia - Deku
This Funko Pop item is a miniature version of the original Funko Pop Deku figure. All of the same details have been included, but in a much smaller form. It features Deku in the beta version hero costume, which is mainly colored blue-green, though he has a red utility belt, white gloves, and, of course, his red shoes. Black reinforcements can be seen on his shins as well. Other defining characteristics like Deku’s green hair and his black freckles are also present. The pose of this mini figure is identical to the previous figure. Deku has both of his arms by his side with his legs spread apart. Although this keychain is rather small, it can make for a great accessory or smaller decoration. It includes a keyring as well, making it great for hanging around one’s keys. That said, this figure keychain can also make for a great decoration for one’s desk. It could even be used as a charm that can be attached to a backpack.

About Funko Pop
The Funko Pop brand of figures is a popular series of vinyl figures that has seen a great amount of success in the United States. Most of the figures made by Funko Pop have a chibi-like aesthetic to them, as the figures have large heads and eyes while their bodies are proportionally much smaller. Many of Funko Pop’s figures are based on characters from popular culture, particularly those from movies, television series, video games, comics, and anime, though there are a few figures that are based on real people as well. This has led to an incredible variety of different figures that are generally sold at a fairly affordable price. Most lines in Funko Pop (Pop! Animation, Pop! Movies, etc.) has hundreds of figures to choose from and many of these figures are sold for between $8 and $20. That said, some Funko Pop figures have become increasingly rare, making them much more expensive.
