About Yuri Katsuki: Background
Born in Hasetsu, Saga Prefecture, his family owns the last bathhouse in his town. Yuri started figure skating at the Ice Castle with his close friends Yuuko Nishigori and Takeshi Nishigori. He is a figure skater that has been certified by the Japan Skating Federation.
Yuri is a world-famous figure skater but is also known to have the “biggest glass heart.” He is very soft-hearted and easily overthinks. He is also very quiet and easily embarrassed but stubborn and competitive, hence his ability to become a world-famous skater. His tendency to overthink leads to his rethinking career as he faces a crushing defeat at the Grand Prix Final.

Yuri has a unique step technique that has been fine-tuned to uttermost perfection. This results from the incredible amount of time he spends on the rink. He is well-known for his spin sequence more than his jumps. At the start of the series, Yuri could only land the quad toe-loop. However, under the guidance of Victor Nikiforov, he becomes a further well-rounded skater and later can land the quad salchow and quad flip.
One of Yuri’s biggest strengths is his stamina. He has a vast amount of stamina and uses it to his advantage during the free skate, where he can place jumps in the second half of the program and gain a 1.1x bonus.

Victor Nikiforov
Victor Nikiforov is a famous figure skater, coach, and choreographer. They first meet after Victor sees a video of Yuri copying an advanced skating routine, which Victor had performed before. He comes to Japan to visit Yuri and offers to coach him and help revive Yuur’s skating career. Yuri has been a massive fan of Victor as a child and is his inspiration for skating. Yuri’s goal as a figure skater was to reach or surpass Victor’s level.
Yuri Plisetsky
Yuri Plisetsky is known as the “Russian Punk,” and Yuri is constantly terrified by him despite being older. The two first meet during the closing ceremony of the Grand Prix Final. At this closing ceremony, Yuri attempts to intimidate Yuri into retiring. Despite this interaction, the two start to form a friendship, with Yuri showing respect towards Yuri and his jumping technique, while Yuri shows some kindness towards Yuri and teaches him how to land a quad salchow. We also see Yuri offering Katsudon Pirozhki to Yuri as he knows Yuri loves katsudon.
