OtapediaThe Legend of Korra - Nendoroid

Although discussions surrounding it have sparked debate on whether it actually qualifies as anime, Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel series, The Legend of Korra have certainly gained a massive reputation among Western fans. Even though the original series is nearly two decades old, both series remain relevant today for their significant Asian martial arts influences, intriguing world, and its portrayal of same-sex relationships despite being a show designed for a younger audience.

Due to the incredible popularity of these two series, manufacturers were quick to create a wide range of merchandise based on the varied cast of the franchise. Overseas companies also took note of the series' popularity, as manufacturers like Good Smile Company would go on to create Nendoroid figures of characters like the titular protagonist, Korra, with the release of the "Nendoroid Legend of Korra - Korra".

Nendoroid Legend of Korra - Korra

This figure of Korra recreates her original design perfectly, yet adds the iconic chibi-style twist that Nendoroid figures are known for. Details like Korra's stark blue eyes, dark hair tied into a ponytail, and her blue Water Tribe outfit are all accurately represented. In addition, this rendition of Korra is fully articulated, which lets the owner of this figure pose her in a variety of dynamic and interesting poses. To add even more possibilities, this set also includes several different accessories and effect parts, like a water and fire bending effect, as well as an additional face plate with glowing eyes, which represents Korra going into the Avatar state.

About The Legend of Korra

The Legend of Korra is a sequel cartoon series to Avatar: The Last Airbender that was created by both Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. It takes place many decades after the original series and follows the titular protagonist, Korra.

About The Legend of Korra: Story

Somewhat like Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra follows the current "Avatar" and their journey to master the four elements and act as a mediator between the physical and spiritual worlds. The main difference between Korra and the previous Avatar and protagonist of The Last Airbender, Aang, is that Korra more or less mastered the four elements when she was still a toddler. That said, she was severely lacking in terms of the spiritual side of being that Avatar. As such, much of the beginning of The Legend of Korra focuses on her spiritual journey into understanding what it means to be the "Avatar". The world of The Legend of Korra is also much more modernized compared to the previous series, as the efforts of several characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender brought in a revolution of technological and social advancements.

About The Legend of Korra: Characters

Although The Legend of Korra features a wide cast of characters, a few of the most important include the titular protagonist, Korra, Asami Sato, Mako, Bolin, and Tenzin. Korra herself is the current Avatar and showed an early mastery of the four elements, though often finds herself getting into trouble because of her fiery and mischievous personality. Mako and Bolin are a pair of orphaned brothers who are a fire-bender and earth-bender respectively and are the ones responsible for showing Korra around Republic City toward the beginning of the series. Meanwhile, Asami Sato is the daughter of the founder of Future Industries, a massive industrial business that was essential in revolutionizing the technology that brought the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender into the modern age. Tenzin is one of the children of both Aang and Katara and acts as an air-bending and spiritual mentor for Korra throughout her journey.

The Legend of Korra Development

The Legend of Korra is a 52-episode cartoon series that was created by the founders of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, and released on Nickelodeon from April 2012 to December 2014.

The Legend of Korra Development: Production

Although The Legend of Korra eventually turned into a 52-episode series, it was originally planned to only be a twelve-episode mini-series. That said, the general concept remained the same and was set in the same world as its predecessor, albeit approximately seventy years in the future. Some of the main staff in charge of the production of The Legend of Korra aside from the original creators include Yoo Jae-myung as animation director, Jeremy Zuckerman as lead composer, and Joaquim Dos Santos as co-executive producer (in addition to DiMartino and Konietzko).

The Legend of Korra Development: Reception

Largely due to the reputation of its predecessor, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra was highly anticipated since its original announcement at Comic-Con 2010. When the series first aired, The Legend of Korra had over 4.5 million viewers, making it the top children's animated show at the time. Many critics and fans applauded the sequel series for its improved visual quality, as well as its quality writing, diverse characters, and use of sociopolitical issues to tell its story. In addition, Korra and Asami would eventually become a couple later in the series, making them one of the first major representations of a romantic same-sex relationship in a program marketed specifically toward children.
