About Norman
Norman is one of the main characters in the series. He is the most intelligent child living at Grace Field and is the brains behind Emma and Ray's escape.
About Norman: Background
Norman is a calm, kind and gentle boy. He is very reliable, and many of the children at Grace Field go to him for support. However, contrasting Emma and similar to Ray, he is a realist.
In all of the tests he had taken at Grace Field, he has had perfect scores and is the smartest child on the farm. He was in particular close to Emma and Ray. One day when Conny is sent off, she leaves behind her stuffed toy. Both Emma and Norman rush to the gates to give her the toy. However, instead of meeting Conny, they discover Conny's corpse in a truck. The two then witness demons placing Conny's dead body into a jar. They also realize that Isabella was working with the demons and a shocked that she was on their side.
The two break down at the scene before them and realize that every person they had sent off had been killed. The two do not speak of the incident to anyone and attempt to stay cool in front of Isabella. They further realize that Ray also knows about the truth and the three come together to figure out a way to escape Grace Fields.
About Norman: Abilities
Norman is one of the top-ranked orphans and is considered "premium quality." A genius-level intellect meant the brain was more "delicious" for the demons. He has never gotten less than a total score throughout the tests conducted at Grace Field. His genius-level intellect allows him to excel a strategy planning and even in games of chess and tag; he can think strategically so he can win. His intelligence can also be seen when he is the only person to realize that Ray is the child acting as a spy for Isabella. His intellect is so great that he is taken to a unique facility instead of left to slaughter.
While Norman excels intellectually, he is one of the weakest children at Grace Fields. So rather than running on energy, he strategically plans so he can win at games that require physical stamina.
Another notable strength of Norman's is his leadership skills. He is liked by all of the children at the house and increases their effective teamwork by teaching them to think logically. Due to his logical thinking, he can see the flaws and weaknesses of his plans and areas that need improvement. This allows for adequate preparations so that they can escape for good.
Other Important The Promised Neverland Characters
Norman grew up alongside Emma and Ray, and the three have a solid close bond.
Emma
Emma and Norman are best friends. Due to growing up together, they are very close to each other and care deeply for each other. They are always willing to sacrifice themselves if it's to protect others. Norman has a strong desire to support Emma as he sees her as selfless and that he must use his intellect to help her and bring Emma's ideals to life. He will often decide on things out of consideration for Emma, despite the choice not being what he would have done. While Emma is selfless and has strong ideals, she is always open to what Norman has to say and takes in his opinions. This is especially notable when she decides to leave half of the children and instead come back for them when they are older.
Ray
After growing up together, Ray and Norman have a brother-like relationship. They have contrasting opinions, with Norman being more sociable while Ray is more introverted. Despite their differences, they care deeply for each other and constantly look out for each other. Their trust is seen when Norman initially considers Ray as the only other person he could confide in. However, the two understand each other to great depths, and Norman successfully stops Ray from committing suicide and sacrificing himself.
Don
Don and Norman are also very close friends. He did trust him to an extent and was willing to let them in on the escape plan. However, the main trio's tendency to hide the facts causes Don to become angry and act rash towards Norman and ultimately punches him out of anger. Despite this, they reconcile and tell him the entire truth, so he can understand what he is up against.
