OtapediaWonder Woman DC Comics - Nendoroid

While the recent resurgence in the popularity of comics has led to countless new heroes from Marvel, DC, and other publishers, one of the oldest and most widely-known superheroes is the one and only Wonder Woman. Since her original debut in the eighth issue of All-Star Comics in 1941, Wonder Woman has appeared in many other DC series and is also a founding member of the Justice League. Throughout her nearly eighty years of history, her popularity would seem to rise and fall as with all comics, but in recent years, the release of modern Wonder Woman films would be thrust into the spotlight once again.

With this renewed popularity came a similarly large rise in demand for merchandise based on Wonder Woman and her various adventures. One particularly notable type of merchandise would include figures based on the hero herself. Due to her long-standing history, even international manufacturers like Good Smile Company have taken notice of the hero and turned her into a tiny, yet adorable figure in their Nendoroid series. Out of the other DC heroes that have been turned into a Nendoroid, the "Nendoroid Wonder Woman: Hero's Edition" stands out among the rest.

Nendoroid Wonder Woman: Hero's Edition

Although Wonder Woman's design has changed numerous times throughout the years, this particular Nendoroid is based on her appearance in the 2017 film of the same name. This outfit is a more modern take on her classic outfit and consists of a red top, a blue pleated skirt, and a double striped gold belt shaped to form two "W"s, short for Wonder Woman. Other aspects of her outfit in this figure include her red and gold boots, bracelets, and her iconic golden tiara. In addition, this figure also includes additional accessories like interchangeable arms and legs, her redesigned sword and shield, her Lasso of Truth, and several face plates to change her expression from calm to concentrating.

About Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman is a superhero from DC Comics who made her first appearance in All-Star Comics #8 in 1941. In the modern continuity of her story, Wonder Woman is the daughter of the Amazonian Queen, Hippolyta, and the DC Comics version of Zeus.

About Wonder Woman: Background

Wonder Woman is an Amazonian warrior who is known for fighting for justice, truth, and equality throughout many different comics. In her original backstory, she is said to have been created from a lump of clay and her mother's love and desire to raise a child. In the modern continuity, however, she is the child of Hippolyta and Zeus. As a result, Wonder Woman is both an Amazonian princess and a demi-god. As an Amazonian warrior, Wonder Woman, or Princess Diana as she was originally known, was raised to fight for peace, justice, and love. As such, Wonder Woman is often portrayed as just, compassionate, and confident.

About Wonder Woman: Abilities

While most other Amazon warriors are considerably strong in their own right, after Wonder Woman left her home to explore the outside world, she was given many different abilities from the Gods of Olympus. Some of these abilities include flight from the god, Hermes, enhanced senses from the goddess Artemis, and other abilities like immortality, accelerated healing, speed, and more. In addition, Wonder Woman also received tools like the Bracelets of Submission, the Lasso of Truth, and her tiara. Her bracelets are virtually indestructible and let her easily deflect projectiles, while her tiara can be used as a projectile itself. Her Lasso of Truth, however, can be used as both a weapon and a tool, as it can compel anything it comes into contact with to tell nothing but the truth, among other various other things depending on the writer's interpretation of the character.

Other Important Wonder Woman Characters

Although Wonder Woman appears in many different stories published by DC Comics, two notable characters from Wonder Woman's own story include Antiope and Steve Trevor.

Antiope

Antiope is Wonder Woman's biological aunt and acts much like a mentor figure throughout her childhood. Aside from teaching Wonder Woman the ways of an Amazon warrior, Antiope also acts as the General of the Amazons. As one of the highest-ranking members among the Amazons, Antiope is certainly one of the strongest warriors from Themyscria. She boasts physical capabilities that far exceed any normal human and is also a master of archery, horse riding, combat, and military strategy.

Steve Trevor

Steve Trevor is an American intelligence officer who ended up crashing into the coast of Themyscria and acts as the main love interest in Wonder Woman's story. Although foreigners are normally barred from setting foot on Themyscria, Steve is spared, and the queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta, orders that the Amazons compete to see who will send Steve back to the outside world and fight for justice. Steve is often portrayed as a charming, yet a cynical individual who is aware of how bad modern civilization has become, making him a stark compliment to Wonder Woman's own just and compassionate personality. Unlike Wonder Woman, however, Steve has no superpowers or abilities outside of his military training and, as such, often needs Wonder Woman to protect him.
