About Kaito

Kaito was released as a counterpart for Meiko. He was the fifth ever Vocaloid to be released.

About Kaito: Background

KAITO was developed by Yamaha and released through Crypton Future Media. His voice is based on using vocal samples from Naoto Fuga. Kaito was promoted as the counterpart to Meiko. However, unlike Meiko, Kaito did not meet much success initially. However, he slowly started to gain a following and his sales gradually increased year by year.

At the peak of his popularity, he had consistently ranked in Crypton’s Top Ten Products. His popularity also increased when Kaito V3 was released and surpassed Meiko in sales. As his popularity increased and more songs were produced, Kaito succeeded in producing multiple hits. Notably, he has 12 songs that have accumulated over one million views. Some of his most popular songs are SHANTI, produced by wotaku, FLOWER TAIL, produced by yuukiss, Akutoku no Judgement, produced by mothy, and more.

His name was chosen through a popularity vote towards the public and was the name ShutP had offered. The Kaito illustration was done by Takashi Kawasaki, however, he was never meant to have much of a profile or any background, unlike many other vocaloids.

About Kaito: Abilities

Kaito is a Vocaloid with multiple voicebanks. His original voice tended to pair better with jazz but due to great compatibility with the original Vocaloid engine, his voice was able to be used in many other genres as well. The Kaito straight vocal was also produced to become a counterpart to Meiko’s straight vocal.

Kaito also has a soft, whisper English voice bank. The soft vocals are based on the original but have loose pronunciation and a natural tone to them. The whisper version has a softer tone than the soft version. Kaito also has an English version allowing for English songs.

Other Important Vocaloid Characters

Kaito was the second Vocaloid released from Crypton Future Media and was produced as the counterpart for Meiko.

Meiko

Meiko is the first-ever Japanese Vocaloid produced! She initially was met with great success but slowly the roles reversed and Kaito started to gain further momentum. Kaito was released as the male counterpart for Meiko. Meiko’s most famous songs include Evil Food Eater Conchita and Nostalgic, all of which accumulated over one million views on the site Nico Nico Douga.

Kagamine Rin

Kagamine Rin is the “twin” of Kagamine Len. She was created on the concept of making a pair of female and male voicebanks. While they seem like siblings, the official statement is they two are neither siblings nor lovers. They slowly gained traction after the release of their Vocaloid and have released multiple cover and original songs that have reached over one million views. In addition, songs such as Adolescence, siGrE, Juvenile, and more have acquired over a million views.

Kagamine Len

Kagamine Len is the other counterpart of Kagamine Rin. The pair were initially marketed as gaining “two vocals for one price.” However, they were unable to meet instant success to the level of Hatsune Miku. To contrast Hatsune Miku, the twins use the color yellow. As a result, they are well-known for their iconic yellow color. While they did not meet instant success, they have produced multiple hits, including Rettou Joutou, produced by Giga-P, Hello Dystopia, produced by Mafumafu, and more. These songs, in particular, became a sensation and had over 10 million views.

Hatsune Miku

Hatsune Miku is one of the most popular and well-known vocaloids, with fans worldwide. She is known for her iconic mint green color scheme and unique high-pitched tone. She has held multiple live stages and has had multiple songs reach over 10 million. Some of her most well-known songs are Vampire, produced by DECO27, Cinderella, produced by OTOIRO, Ghost Rule, produced by DECO27, and more.
