About Yuri Plisetsky
Yuri Plisetsky is a Russian figure skater and is one of the main characters in Yuri on Ice. He is known as the “Russian Punk” due to his bad attitude outside the skating rink.
About Yuri Plisetsky: Background
Yuri was raised by his grandfather, Nikolai Plisetsky, in Moscow, Russia, as his mother was constantly busy due to being a Russian idol. Due to this upbringing, Yuri is closer to his grandfather than his mother. He initially started skating from a young age and later moved to Saint Petersburg to train under Yakov Feltsman. He was a part of the new generation of Russian figure skaters who dominated the junior age range and then moved up to the senior age range. As a junior, he was the two-time Junior World Championship and two-time Junior Grand Prix Final Champion.
While he has been told by many to be very talented and has captivated the audience on the rink. He is known as the “Russian Punk " outside the rink,” due to his horrible attitude. He is very ambitious and is determined to become the best in the figure skating world. Due to this determination, he is very short-tempered and not above threatening and intimidating others to retire. While he has a bad attitude toward others, he is also very critical of himself and is constantly working to improve and impress Victor Nikiforov. Despite these moments, he does show a kind side to those he cares about, most notably towards his grandfather and, on occasion, towards Yuri Katsuki.
About Yuri Plisetsky: Abilities
Yuri Plisetsky is known for his insane jump technique. This was seen from a young age, and he had successfully landed a quadruple salchow when he was 12. In the program Agape, his quads were planned to be done in the second half for maximum score, showing the stability of his jumps and a great amount of stamina.
As a junior, he was also known for his combination spins and could hold spirals and spin in a half Biellmann position, which required immense flexibility and hence rare for men to perform. His flexibility and grace resulted from practicing ballet from a very young age.
Other Important Yuri!!! on Ice Characters
Victor Nikiforov and Yuri Katsuki heavily influence Yuri Plisetsky. These two characters greatly influence him as a person and a figure skater.
Victor Nikiforov
Yuri greatly admired Victor Nikiforov as a child and idolized him. They were rink mates under Yakov’s guidance. Victor first noticed Yuri when he attempted a quad salchow during the competition. Victor proposes choreographing a program for him if he wins a competition without quad jumps, as Yuri was too young to be attempting quads. This motivates him to work harder as a figure skater. Later when Victor quits competitive skating to coach Yuri, Yuri is greatly disappointed in him.
Yuri Katsuki
Initially, Yuri Katsuki and Yuri start on bad terms. Yuri intimidates Yuri into retiring from skating, as he does not like Yuri’s weak nature after losing. However, the two start to become close and form a friendship, with both respecting each other. Yuri even teaches Yuri how to do the quad salchow jump.
