About Victor Nikiforov

Victor Nikiforov is a professional figure skater as well as a coach and choreographer. He serves as the series's deuteragonist in Yuri!!! on Ice. After watching a video of Japanese skater Yuri Katuski perfectly replicate his most famous routine, Victor drops out of the skating season and flies to Japan to be Yuri's coach.

Background

Victor enjoys a reputation as a living legend in the men's figure skating world. By 16, coaches and spectators already considered him at the top level in skating. At the beginning of the series, Victor held five consecutive World Championships and Grand Prix Finals first place titles. After becoming Yuri's coach, Victor learns how inexperienced he is regarding calming and directing another skater. He eventually adapts to Yuri's coaching needs and starts to love him in the process. Before the Grand Prix, Victor and Yuri exchange rings in Spain, symbolizing their devotion to each other.

Abilities

Victor's greatest talent as a skater lies in his jumps. Viktor's most difficult jump, the quad flip, became his signature move at the peak of his career. He can also land three other quads, making him proficient in four out of the five ratified jumps. Unlike Yuri, Victor struggles with stamina. As a result, he often performs the most difficult jumps at the beginning of his routine and makes up the score of the second half through performance. Though an amateur, Victor also shows promise as a choreographer.

Makkachin

Makkachin is Victor's brown standard poodle. Victor adores Makkachin and brings him everywhere. His desire to spend more time with his dog partially influences his decision to break away from skating. Like most poodles, Makkachin loves to run but can be quiet and well-behaved indoors. He is extremely well trained and can accompany Victor around a busy airport off a leash.

Yakov Feltsman

Yakov Feltsman was Victor's coach before he left the skating world. Under Yakov, Victor rose to skating stardom and became one of the most talented skaters in the world. When Victor decided to leave and coach Yuri, Yakov believed Victor wouldn't make a good coach. Despite his stern attitude toward Victor, Yakov clearly holds affection for him in his heart. Now he coaches Yuri Plisetsky in opposition to Victor's coaching of Yuri Katsuki.
