OtapediaPearl Steven Universe - Figures

Fans of Steven Universe love the series for its deeply emotional messages and realistic portrayal of character flaws. One of the series's most popular characters is the overbearing perfectionist Pearl. Pearl's storied past, unrequited love, and journey to finding her inner strength received fair treatment in the series's narrative. By not glorifying or condemning Pearl, she got the chance to exist as a nuanced, refreshing character in animation. The Pearl figure "Pop! Animation: Steven Universe - Pearl" lets fans show their appreciation of the Crystal Gem in their media collection.

Pop! Animation: Steven Universe - Pearl

Funko's Pop! Animation line offers fans a chance to display their love for Pearl in this perfectly desktop-sized figure. Pearl stands with her signature elegant poise. She holds her feet in the third position with her arms stretched out gracefully to the side. She wears the outfit from her second regeneration, complete with the sash around her waist where she was sliced in half. Her face features the trademark Funko stylistic simplifications. However, unlike most Funko figures, Pearl retains her iconic pointed nose paired with an easy smile. Her pearl gemstone on her forehead shines with an appropriately lustrous finish.

About Pearl

Pearl is one of the Crystal Gems, a rebel group formed by Rose Quartz. Pearl values order, precision, and organization the most out of the Crystal Gems. She loves Steven dearly and treats him like an overprotective mother and mentor.

Background

As a pearl, a subservient gem in the Steven Universe franchise, Pearl spent her early life in complete devotion to her master, Pink Diamond. At the start of the Rebellion, Pearl followed Rose Quartz and defected against the gem Homeworld. While on Earth, Pearl learned sword-fighting and the concept of knighthood. She fell in love with Rose Quartz and expressed immense jealousy toward her relationship with the human Greg Universe. After Rose died giving birth to Steven, Pearl struggled to accept the choices Rose made. Over time, she came to terms with her new life and position among the surviving Crystal Gems.

Abilities

Pearl possesses the basic magical abilities of a gem: bubbling, shapeshifting, regeneration, and fusion. Due to her training on Earth with Rose Quartz, Pearl is an expert swordsman and proficient spear wielder. Pearl can project holograms from the gemstone on her forehead, including the semi-tangible Holo-Pearl. She can also self-duplicate, producing multiple holographic-like clones of her own body. Of the main Crystal Gems, Pearl demonstrates the greatest mastery of Gem and human technology.

Other Important Steven Universe Characters

The Steven Universe series revolves around the interactions between each character. Here are some other important figures in the story.

Steven Universe

Steven Universe is the eponymous main character of the Cartoon Network children's series. The child of a gem, Rose Quartz, and a human, Greg Universe, Steven lives a life split between both worlds. He lives with the Crystal Gems on the outskirts of Beach City. His outgoing, happy-go-lucky personality earns him many friends throughout the series. Through his gem training, Steven learns secrets of his late mother's past that challenge his persistent optimism. Although he never met his mother, Steven lives his life dealing with the consequences of her decisions on her behalf.

Garnet

Garnet serves as the de facto leader of the current Crystal Gems. Her cool, pragmatic approach lends to her role as peacemaker when Pearl and Amethyst disagree. She tends to act on intuition rather than analysis and commands respect from the Crystal Gems. A powerful gem, Garnet is actually a fusion of two smaller gems, Ruby and Sapphire. Ruby and Sapphire met in the early days of the Rebellion and eventually fell in love, deciding to live their lives together as a fusion permanently.

Amethyst

Amethyst is the fun-loving, impulsive member of the Crystal Gems. While Pearl and Garnet behave like parents toward Steven, Amethyst acts more like an older sister. Amethyst formed in the Prime Kindergarten almost 5,000 years before the story begins. She emerged 500 years later than other quartzes grown in the Kindergarten making her smaller and weaker than the others. Amethyst struggles with feelings of guilt and self-loathing regarding her origin but masks her insecurities by pushing herself in battle. Of the Crystal Gems, Amethyst has the best relationship with humans.

Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz was the mysterious rebel leader of the Crystal Gems, Pearl's love interest, and Steven's mom. Rose fell in love with the natural beauty of Earth and began the rebellion to stop Homeworld's destruction of other planets for their own gain. She gained many followers at the height of war due to her natural charisma and maternal charm. She found humans particularly "funny" and "adorable" due to their constant growth and change. Rose died giving birth to Steven, retreating into her gemstone. Since Steven inherited his mother's gemstone, she is, in a way, a part of him.
