OtapediaGol D Roger One Piece - Figures

One Piece is a manga series that has been written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda since July 1997. Each chapter has been serialized weekly in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and, as of early 2021, has reached over one-thousand chapters. As the series gained more and more popularity over the years, it has been adapted into a variety of different media, such as a long-running anime series, light novels, video games, and so on. With a worldwide hit like One Piece, merchandise inspired by the many characters that appear throughout the series is not hard to come by, but fans may be particularly fond of figures of Gol D. Roger, the legendary Pirate King that started the Golden Age of Piracy. Two particularly popular figures of Roger include the “Ichibansho Figure One Piece Legends Over Time Gol D. Roger” and the “One Piece King of Artist: Gol D. Roger”.

About Gol D. Roger

Gol D. Roger is the former Pirate King before he was executed by the Marines in the introduction of One Piece. The following is a brief summary of his character.

Background

Before his life as a pirate, Roger lived a very humble life in Loguetown where he desired to protect those he loved more than anything else. At some point, he meets Silvers Rayleigh, who lived on a stolen ship. This eventually led to the formation of the Roger Pirates, which would go on to be the first known group to travel around the Grand Line. After his final voyage was complete, however, Roger turned himself to the Marines, as he had been suffering from an unknown disease and knew his time left was running out. Although the Marines had decided to publicly execute Roger as an attempt to deter citizens from becoming pirates, Roger instead told the world about the treasure he left at the end of the Grand Line, marking the beginning of the Golden Age of Piracy.

Special Abilities

As the man who would become the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger was a man with an unbelievable amount of strength. Despite not having the powers of a Devil Fruit, Roger managed to go head-to-head against some of the strongest characters in all of One Piece, like Monkey D. Garp and Edward Newgate (Whitebeard). Aside from his physical strength, Roger also could hear the “Voice of All Things”, which only a handful of other characters share. This ability allowed Roger to hear the “voices” of things like Poneglyphs, making them much easier to locate.

Other Important One Piece Characters

Two important characters that are connected to Gol D. Roger are Shanks and Buggy, who were both a part of Roger’s crew before it disbanded.

“Red-Haired” Shanks

Shanks is one of the Four Emperors and a former apprentice of the Roger Pirates when he was very young. At the beginning of One Piece, Shanks meets Luffy and inspires him to become the Pirate King. He is also the previous owner of the straw hat Luffy wears and is the one who brought the Gum-Gum Fruit when eventually ended up being eaten by Luffy. As one of the Four Emperors, Shanks is immensely powerful and had enough influence to get both the Marines and the Whitebeard Pirates to stop fighting by himself.

Buggy

Buggy the Clown, much like Shanks, was an apprentice of the Roger Pirates and eventually founded his own crew named the Buggy Pirates. He is also one of the first major antagonists that Luffy comes across, which Luffy takes care of with relative ease. Buggy ends up reappearing several times throughout the series to aid Luffy in his adventures, most notably in the Impel Down Arc. Although Buggy constantly wishes to be the center of attention, he is quick to flee if things go south, even if it means leaving his allies behind. Buggy also consumed the Chop-Chop Fruit, which gives him the ability to sever and control parts of his body at will.
