About Yumi

Yumi is a third-year student and leader of the Gessen Girls Academy for good shinobi. She is the granddaughter of Kurokage and often has conflicting feelings about his vision for rooting out all evil in the world.

Background

Yumi is a student and one of the leaders of the infamous Gessen Girls School. She set out to carry out her murdered grandfather's vision of eliminating all evil in the world. Growing up, he adopted her and trained her in high-level shinobi skills, as well as his ideology. Yumi's strong urge to eliminate all evil shinobi as well as their associates, caused her to be suspicious of students from rival schools, who have associated with evil. Her thoughts about other students from rival schools often were conflicting, as she was made aware of the existence of good alongside evil. One notable character that Yumi often clashes with is Asuka, a rival shinobi whom first Yumi sees as a staunch archenemy, but eventually comes to accept the possibility of Asuka's good intentions. Now Yumi, less extreme, embarks on carrying out her grandfather's vision but a lot more toned-down with a more balanced approach. Yumi's stance on good vs evil is driven partly by a once-evil shinobi group, called the Crimson Squad. This group of girls wreaked havoc upon shinobi who were good, as they were brainwashed by their evil academy's boss. Yumi has an adoptive sister, Fubuki, who she doesn't get along with. The two sisters were estranged from one another but eventually met again through a series of matches, which bought back their friendship.

Special Abilities

In the Senran Kagura video game, Yumi packs a punch with her range of special abilities. She is trained in Ninjutsu, can create illusions, and even boost her attack speed. She is also capable of using her skills in transformation as well as fighting with a fan as an assault weapon.

Yumi forms many relationships, both with girls in her Academy, as well as in rival academies. Some of the characters that are most relevant to her are Asuka and Hanzo, leader of the Hanzo National Academy.

Asuka

Asuka is a student of Hanzo National Academy and Yumi’s rival. She convinces Yumi that evil can coexist, something Yumi eventually comes to accept.

Hanzo

Hanzo is the leader of the infamous Hanzo National Academy. Yumi tries to battle Hanzo to help carry out her grandfather's vision, however, she soon finds out that he was her teacher all along. Hanzo is also the teacher of Asuka.
