About Mike Wazowski

Mike Wazowski is the deuteragonist of Monsters, Inc. and Sully's scaring partner. He struggles with his insecurities related to his inability to scare children. He and Sully hide Boo from the CDA, rescue her from Waternoose, and return her to the Human World.

Background

Mike is a small, lime green monster with gray horns and one large eye in the middle of his head. Mike's hard-working personality helped him and Sully reach the top-performing spot in Monsters, Inc. Initially, Mike feared Boo and helped Sully hide her only out of loyalty to his friend. As they attempt to smuggle Boo back to the Scare Floor, Randall ambushes them. Randall convinces Mike that he will help retrieve Boo's door and get her home, but he betrays them. Mike and Sully end up stranded in the Himalayas and must find a way back to the Monster World to save Boo.

Abilities

Mike's lack of scariness held him back in his youth. However, he uses his expert knowledge in scare theory to help Sully succeed in the field. More of his resourceful nature shows in the prequel film, Monsters University. Mike consistently displays bravery, loyalty, and an excellent sense of humor. At the end of the movie, Monsters, Inc. switches to sourcing laughter and Mike becomes the company's top performer.

Other Important Monsters, Inc. Characters

The central characters in Monsters, Inc. revolve around the movie's two main plots: returning Boo to the human world and revealing the company's sinister secrets.

Sully

James P. Sullivan, or Sully, is the main protagonist of Monsters, Inc. Sully consistently ranked as Monsters, Inc.'s top Scarer and aimed to beat the top scare record at the beginning of the film. After finding a human child and learning she isn't dangerous like the company led him to believe, Sully begins to question his role. He nicknames the child Boo and dedicates himself to returning her to the Human World. Sully and Mike met before the events of the movie, detailed in the prequel film Monsters University. He eventually takes over as Monsters, Inc. CEO and shifts the energy focus from screams to laughter.

Boo

Boo is the nickname given to a human child that accidentally enters the Monster World, triggering the events of the film. Sully discovers Boo on the Scare Floor when investigating a suspended open door. After accidentally touching her, Sully discovers that human children aren't toxic like Monsters, Inc. officials told him. Boo grows very attached to Sully, calling him "Kitty" and clinging to him. She finds Mike very entertaining and her laughter at his antics leads Mike and Sully to discover laughter provides more power than screams. She returns home at the end of the film but she and Sully reunite in her room at the film's close.

Roz

Roz is a grouchy, slug-type monster who works as an administrator on Scare Floor F. She never smiles and constantly berates Mike for the paperwork he fails to file. In the film's climax, Sully and Mike find out Roz actually works as the head of the CDA, or Child Detection Agency. She posed as a key master as part of an internal investigation of shady misgivings in the company. Her power as leader of the CDA gives her the authority to arrest Waternoose and Randall and appoint Sully and Mike as new company leaders.

Henry J. Waternoose III

Henry J. Waternoose III is one of the two main antagonists in Monsters, Inc. alongside Randall Boggs. At first, Waternoose presents himself as a fatherfly and pragmatic figure as the CEO of Monsters, Inc. With the company facing scare energy shortages, he turns to more aggressive methods of extracting screams from children. The CDA eventually detains Waternoose in the film's climax, replacing him with Sully as the company's CEO.
