OtapediaBuzz Lightyear Toy Story - Figures

Out of the Toy Story franchise, Buzz Lightyear enjoys the most widespread popularity. While all the toys appear in shorts and specials outside of the Toy Story franchise films, Buzz received his own animated spinoff series. Buzz also ranked above Woody in first place on a list of Pixar's most influential characters. Traditional Buzz Lightyear action figures have been in production since 1995. Here are two Buzz Lightyear figures that reimagine the legendary Space Ranger: "BE@RBRICK 400% Buzz Lightyear," and the "Chogokin Toy Story Chogattai Buzz the Space Ranger Robo."

BE@RBRICK 400% Buzz Lightyear Figure

Buzz Lightyear's BE@RBRICK figure shows the Space Ranger in a creative new form. The mechanical lines of his spacesuit fade into simplified shading and rounded joints to fit the BE@RBRICK form. Crisp paintwork recreates important details, like his jetpack with retractable wings, in two-dimensional form. The purple head cap runs up along the bear ears, framing his brazen, confident smile. His facial details feature an exaggerated swirl on his chin and his thick eyebrows. The swell of the bear's face gives the impression of an even bolder Buzz Lightyear jawline.

About Buzz Lightyear

Buzz Lightyear is a muscular, high-tech space ranger action figure from the Toy Story franchise. Buzz's introduction to the toys in the first film sets off the series's chain of events. Though they didn't get along at first, Buzz and Woody eventually became best friends.

Background

In the first film, the Buzz Lightyear action figure is the season's hot new toy. Upon meeting him, the other toys discover Buzz believes he is a real Space Ranger. After realizing his true identity as a toy, Buzz enters a depression and needs Woody's help so they can both escape Sid's house. After coming to terms with his identity, Buzz becomes a well-respected toy in Andy's Room. He shares the coveted favorite toy title with Woody, and the two take on shared leadership roles.

Abilities

Buzz has all the special features of a fun action figure. His helmet retracts at the push of a button with a cool "whoosh" sound. He has retractable wings, a laser pointer weapon, and programmed sound bite phrases. Buzz also has a spring-loaded karate chop action and glows in the dark. The Buzz Lightyear toy line also gains a language adaptor, making Buzz proficient in Spanish.

Other Important Toy Story Characters

As a main character, Buzz interacts with most of the characters in all four Toy Story films. The relationships between Buzz and these characters include aesthetic similarities, direct plot interaction, and his close friends.

Squeeze Toy Aliens

The Squeeze Toy Aliens, also known as little green men, are recurring characters in the Toy Story movies. They first appear in the Pizza Planet claw machine where Buzz ends up trapped in the first movie. Three Aliens appear in the second movie inside a Pizza Planet delivery van as decoration. After Mr. Potato Head saves them from flying out the window, they praise him as their savior. These three Aliens join the cast as Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head's adopted children in later films. The Squeeze Toy Aliens appear as an actual alien race that works with Buzz as scientists in the tv show Buzz Lightyear Star Command.

Sid

Sid serves as the primary antagonist in the first Toy Story movie. A violent and sadistic boy, Sid lives next door to Andy and performs experiments on his toys. Buzz and Woody end up trapped in Sid's room and watch in horror as he performs "surgery" on two unwilling toys. Sid plans on blowing up Woody with a rocket he ordered called "the Big One." However, when he can't find him, he decides to launch Buzz into orbit instead. Buzz and Woody reconcile their differences to escape and help lead a toy rebellion. They use the rocket to catch up with Andy's moving van and reunite with the other toys.

Woody

Woody is the other primary protagonist of the Toy Story franchise and Buzz's best friend. Woody and Buzz's designs together play off the aesthetics differences of cowboys and astronauts. At first, Woody and Buzz disagreed and fought almost constantly. However, their friendship ends up saving their lives in the first movie and continues as a theme throughout the series. Fans and critics consider Buzz and Woody's goodbye in Toy Story 4 the true signal of the franchise's end.
