About Yoh Asakura

Yoh Asakura is the man to become the next Shaman King! The protagonist of the series and the man is so laid back he makes a fighting style of it! Here is more info about the beloved shaman.

Background

Beginning his adventure at only 13, Yoh Asakura has a lot on his plate! However, that doesn’t sway Yoh from his dream of being the next Shaman King. Being a slacker from an early age, he sees being the Shaman King as his ticket to an easy life! Yoh Asakura was raised in Izumo by his mother, grandfather, and his father’s apprentice. It was his grandfather that taught him how to become a shaman. At the age of ten, he met his first guardian ghost, Matamune, and his fiance! Angry at the pre-planned marriage, his fiance attacked him through an oni, but his bravery made her dispel the oni. Even though he gained a fiance, the fight caused Matamune to spend the last of its energy and disappear.

Special Abilities

Yoh ends up becoming one of the five elemental warriors, his trait being Earth. However before that, he has another power, slacking. His relaxed nature acts as a piece of straw by bending with the wind to avoid breaking. Between training and fighting, Yoh has learned many techniques for battle, he has even learned some from his guardian spirits. Speaking of which, Yoh’s first chosen guardian spirit is Amidamaru, who is a 600-year-old samurai. Loyal to Yoh and very brave, their tag team is hard to beat. Especially when considering that Yoh’s main weapon is Amidamaru’s sword from when he was living!

Other Important Shaman King Characters

It would be dangerous to make this character mad, so without waiting here is Hao Asamura. Hao is the current Shaman King and the “twin” of Yoh. Of course, there is also Tao Ren, a fierce opponent, and a strong ally. Alongside them, we have Anna Asakura and Manta Oyamada.

Hao Asakura

Hao’s story is incredibly dark. However he is the current Shaman King, but he is also the twin brother of his descendant, Yoh Asakura. Hao is not only the main antagonist in the series but is also Yoh’s ancestor. In his first life, he was born in Douji Asaha during the Heian period. During his first life, he saw how corruption destroyed the world and saw everything as dark. The first one to change those views was the demon Ohachiyo. Ohachiyo taught Hao the positive aspects of life. However, during an accident with his first Over Soul, Ohachiyo was absorbed into a permanent part of Hao. This gave Hao dangerous abilities, it also changed him even after he had become peaceful and caring. His love and caring made the Asakura family prosperous in ancient times. Only to change.

Tao Ren

Egotistical, stern, and secretly caring. This is the only way to describe Tao Ren. Raised by a very strict family in China, Ren is the product of stealing someone’s childhood from them. He hated and despised his father, who made Ren train and study his childhood years away from him. This would come back to bite Ren as his father would forcefully lock up his own son. Making Yoh Asakura come to his rescue! At the end that strengthens the bond between Ren and Yoh. Ren also becomes one of the five elemental warriors, making himself like lightning. This makes him move at lightning speed and have incredibly fast attacks. Sadly viewing Bason as a tool, Ren was jaded as a child to believe that spirits will take advantage. Nevertheless, Ren learns to trust his allies and becomes a powerful addition to the team!

Anna Asakura

The fiancé of Yoh, Anna is almost as powerful as he is! Anna is a second-generation shaman, even though she was abandoned as a child for her ability to read people’s thoughts. Her abilities are subconscious, meaning she cannot control them, and reading people’s minds means she can also feel their emotions. Feeling the anger and hate, she would usually avoid contact with people, but the anger would still turn into an Oni. When Anna and Yoh first met and found out that they would be fiancés, Anna’s emotions let loose an Oni. While Yoh defeated it, they never knew that the Oni’s real target was Anna. They would eventually get married and have children.

Manta Oyamada

Manta is a classmate of Yoh and Anna. Manta is capable of seeing spirits but has not been trained as a Shaman. They first became friends when Yoh fought back against a spirit that beat up Manta in a cemetery. That cemetery was actually where they first met. Yoh asked Manta to stop and stargaze with “them”, even though Yoh was the only one there. Manta is an energetic and usually panicky friend that is always good comedic humor.
