About Yoko Kurama
Yoko Kurama is the original and strongest of the demon-fox Kurama in Yu Yu Hakusho. Before Kurama adopted his human form, Shuichi Minamoto, he spent his time as a highly-skilled thief in the demon world. Now limited by his human stature, Kurama can only access his full powers as Yoko Kurama in extreme circumstances.
Background
Centuries before the series events, Yoko Kurama enjoyed his reputation as the "Legendary Bandit." He and his partner, Yomi, formed a group of thieves to gain power in the demon world. However, Yomi hired an assassin to kill Yoko but the attempt failed and blinded him in the process. Yoko abandoned him on the grounds of his betrayal. Shortly before the series began, Yoko received a nearly fatal wound on a heist. He retreated into the soul of an unborn child hoping to hide out and regain his strength. Kurama learned compassion and kindness from his human mother, drastically changing his personality.

Yoko Kurama's greatest asset is his intelligence and precision. During his time as a thief, Kurama developed his skills as a master strategist and tactician. His physical abilities include enhanced strength, speed, and resilience. As a fox demon, Kurama's demonic energy works well with manipulating the natural world, particularly plant life. His attacks as Yoko Kurama become dramatically sadistic when compared to his usual form. Some of his special techniques include the Bloodsucking Plant and Death Tree, both of which devour the opponent in a painful manner.

Yusuke Urameshi
Yusuke Urameshi is the main protagonist of Yu Yu Hakusho. After dying unexpectedly and coming back to life, Yusuke becomes a detective for the spirit world. He meets Kurama on an assignment investigating the theft of the three Artifacts of Darkness. After his arrest for stealing the Forlorn Hope, Kurama joins Yusuke on a few of his cases. Kurama ends up officially joining Team Urameshi in the Dark Tournament after coercion from the Toguro Brothers. In this tournament, Kurama reawakens his power as Yoko Kurama for the first time since adopting a human form.
Hiei
Hiei is a ruthless demon and Kurama's most recent regular partner. Hiei learns of Kurama's thievery skills through stories about the Legendary Bandit Yoko Kurama. He enlists him to help steal the three Artifacts of Darkness. Hiei, a full demon, fails to understand Kurama's fondness for humans and says his time with a human mother has made him a fool. Eventually, Hiei also spends more time with Kurama and Team Urameshi. However, he keeps his distance from the humans and prefers to relate only with Kurama.
Kazuma Kuwabara
Kazuma Kuwabara is one of Yusuke's classmates in junior high and the final member of Team Urameshi. Despite their major difference in strength, Kuwabara continually challenges Yusuke to fights, proclaiming Yusuke as his rival. When Yusuke gets involved with spirit detective work, Kuwabara tags along. His heightened spirit awareness makes him a valuable ally for Yusuke, but his lower spirit energy strength puts him in danger. Kurama and Hiei train Kuwabara before entering the Dark Tournament in hopes of preventing his immediate death.
Yomi
Yomi was Kurama's partner and second-in-command at the height of his master thief days. While they worked together, Yomi possessed a rash, headstrong personality that put him at odds with the calculating Kurama. After losing his eyesight, Yomi became calmer and as a result much stronger. Yomi invites Kurama to join him and help him unite the Demon World to invade the living world during the final arc.
