About Beatrice

Beatrice is a part of the Emilia Camp and a caretaker at the Roswaal Mansion. She joins and helps Subaru throughout the series.

About Beatrice: Background

Beatrice is an Artificial Spirit created by Echidna, the Witch of Greed, four centuries ago. Echidna tasked Beatrice to look after her mansion, the Palace of the Witch. With Puck, they would help out anyone who managed to reach the palace.

Beatrice would also accompany Echidna to the Sanctuary and meets Ryuzu Meyer, and the two become friends. Echidna tells Beatrice to protect the library after using her Door Crossing to connect Echidna's library to Roswaal's mansion. She has been told to save the library until "The Person" shows up. However, Beatrice has been deceived throughout the years, and many have attempted to take her out of the library on numerous occasions. Many have been interested in the Forbidden Library or using Beatrice due to her powerful spiritual nature.

This experience leads to Beatrice closing her heart, and she is unable to deal with people and unable to become close with anyone. Despite this, she is very kindhearted and often feels lonely. She is also known for her distinctive speech, commonly using "I suppose" and "in fact" when talking.

About Beatrice: Abilities

Beatrice is a Magic user and is considered a master of Yin Magic. She is able to use different kinds of Yin Magic spells, even those forgotten by modern time people. However, after battling the Oousagi with Subaru, she has used up all of the mana she had saved over four centuries, making her almost useless in combat. She can only use basic spells now.

An example of Beatrice's notable spells is the Door Crossing. It is a spell where she can connect a space to an interior of the building. She is also seen using the Barrier Conjuration, which allows her to produce a wall of invisible magical energy and will rebound any attack which hits it.

Unlike most spirits, Beatrice is unable to absorb mana from the atmosphere. Instead, she obtains mana from living creatures by touching them. She can absorb the mana in their gate when she feels the living creature and boosts her mana supply. Anyone who experiences this Mana Drain will become tired, and Beatrice can also tell the target's intentions towards her.

While Beatrice may be a strong spirit, one of her greatest assets is her vast amount of knowledge. Due to her age, she has accumulated an immense amount of knowledge and has also consistently read the books in her library. Her knowledge, in particular about Yin Magic, surpasses Roswaals. She also was gifted a replica of the Book of Wisdom from Echidna.

While Beatrice seems strong and struggles to become too close with others. As the series progresses, she slowly matures and forms friendships with others. In particular, she is close with Subaru Natsuki.

Subaru Natsuki

While the two initially did not have a good impression of each other, Subaru Natsuki and Beatrice grow to become close. Due to the bad image, Beatrice initially takes on a very harsh and strict tone towards him and disregards the problems Subaru encounters. However, Subaru continued to treat her in a kind manner. On numerous occasions, despite what she says, she has lent her hand to help Subaru or has even resolved the curse he was under.

Puck

Puck and Beatrice were both created by Echidna. The two of them adore each other due to having similar backgrounds. Additionally, due to their experience, they have a strong bond and will help each other out when needed.

Echidna

Echidna is Beatrice's creator and is also the one who ordered her to protect the Forbidden Library until "The Person" arrived. Despite the struggles she has gone through because of Echidna, Beatrice views Echidna as a motherly figure.
