OtapediaCirno Touhou Project - Nendoroid

Out of all of the otaku multimedia franchises in Japan, there is likely none more popular than the Touhou Project. Since the release of the first two games in 1997, the series has exploded into a massive collection of bullet hell games, fighting games, and even more, fan-created works. As the Touhou Project community continued to grow, manufacturers began to take notice and started producing plenty of merchandise based on the many characters from the franchise. Out of the numerous different manufacturers of otaku merchandise, Good Smile Company and its Nendoroid line of figures are particularly popular for its extensive catalog and reasonable prices. While Good Smile Company has created figures for several characters from the Touhou Project, the ice fairy Cirno remains one of the most popular. There are currently two different Nendoroid figures of Cirno: the "Nendoroid Cirno | Touhou Project" and the "Nendoroid Touhou Project Suntanned Cirno".

Nendoroid Cirno | Touhou Project

This figure features Cirno in her classic outfit, which consists of a blue and white dress, a red ribbon tied around her collar, and a pair of white shoes. Other details like the big blue ribbon in her ice blue hair, the shards of ice behind her back, and her confident expression are perfectly captured in this chibi-style figure. This set also includes other accessories like a frog frozen in ice, a sword made of ice, separate pairs of arms and legs, and face plates with different expressions to allow its owner to customize it in many different ways.

Nendoroid Touhou Project Suntanned Cirno

This summer-themed Nendoroid takes the previous figure and adds a few new details. As the name of this figure implies, Cirno's usually snow-white skin has gotten some sun and is tanned. In addition, her blue dress now comes decorated with a sunflower in her red ribbon and a vine of morning glories that are wrapped along her back and arms. This Nendoroid also comes with the same additional accessories as the previous figure as well, making it a nice seasonal twist to the original Cirno Nendoroid.

About Cirno

Cirno is a recurring character from the Touhou Project who made her first appearance as a boss character from the sixth official Touhou Project game, Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.

About Cirno: Background

Cirno is an ice fairy who is known for her childish and self-serving personality. In her first appearance, she attacks Reimu and Marisa for simply being in the way, despite the two being much more powerful than Cirno herself. Later appearances similarly depict her, which only further highlights the naive, foolish side of her personality. Cirno also has a habit of freezing frogs to watch them revive as the ice thaws, though only a few of these attempts are successful.

About Cirno: Abilities

Compared to other fairies, Cirno may be considered to be rather strong, but in the greater scheme of things, she is often seen as a pushover. Her main ability involves manipulating heat to freeze objects, which she can then use to attack a target. These attacks often take the form of icicles, ice cubes, or ice swords, though she can also freeze another person's bullets as well. While her abilities may sound formidable, however, they can easily be overcome by many other characters.

Other Important Touhou Project Characters

Out of the extensive list of characters in the Touhou Project, two of the most recurring characters are Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame.

Reimu Hakurei

Reimu Hakurei is the shrine maiden of the Hakurei Shrine and is often responsible for resolving the many issues that appear throughout Gensokyo. When fighting against yokai, Reimu often relies on the Yin-Yang Orb, a powerful treasure from the Hakurei Shrine that can harm yokai. Aside from her responsibilities as a shrine maiden, Reimu is generally a happy, yet air-headed individual. That said, she can be quick to annoy whenever her daily routine is disturbed by something like a yokai attack.

Marisa Kirisame

Marisa Kirisame is a human magician living in Gensokyo and is one of Reimu's closest friends and partners. Although many inhabitants in Gensokyo are born with some inherent abilities or power, Marisa's strength comes solely from her studies in magic. Because of her hardworking attitude, Marisa has become a formidable magician who specializes in light and heat magic. One of her mottos is "it ain't magic if it ain't flashy", which is only further supported by her intense, powerful, and speedy attacks. Marisa also tends to collect things and has extensive knowledge of many valuable and magical items in Gensokyo.
