OtapediaAsh Ketchum Pokemon - Nendoroid

Since 1996, Pokemon has been one of the most popular media franchises around the world. The media giant includes several main line and side console games, phone apps, trading cards, and anime adaptations. The original television anime debuted in Japan in 1997. Since then, the main series has followed Ash Ketchum as he meets new Pokemon introduced alongside the games. Ash became an unofficial symbol for the Pokemon anime, particularly overseas. Since 2017, Pokemon anime fans have been able to celebrate Ash with the commemorative Nendoroid figure "Nendoroid Pokemon Ash & Pikachu."

Nendoroid Pokemon Ash & Pikachu

The Pokemon Company celebrated the 20th anniversary of its anime adaptation with this Nendoroid figure of protagonist Ash Ketchum. The figure design resembles the style of the early anime rather than the newer seasons. Ash wears his outfit from the anime's debut season. Notably, he wears the original version of the Pokemon league official hat. The hat also comes with a backward version to recreate Ash's serious battle stance. The figure includes three face plates: a serious expression, a standard smile, and a closed eye smile. Ash's best friend Pikachu also comes with the figure in two different poses for friendly and battle poses. Additional accessories include a Pokeball and lightning effects for Pikachu's electric attacks.

About Ash Ketchum

Ash Ketchum is the ten-year-old protagonist of the Pokemon main series anime. Given the popularity of the Pokemon franchise, Ash is one of the most recognizable fictional characters of all time.

About Ash Ketchum: Background

The anime begins on Ash Ketchum's tenth birthday. At age ten, he can receive a starter Pokemon and begin his journey as a registered pokemon trainer. Ash oversleeps, missing the starter Pokemon handout, and instead receives an unruly Pikachu as his partner. Ash and Pikachu forge a powerful bond as they travel through the various regions of the pokemon world together. Though he faces many setbacks, Ash strives to become the world's greatest Pokemon trainer.

At the beginning of the series, Ash is naive, impulsive, and determined. However, he also exhibits great love and kindness for Pokemon, which helps him mature through his travels. At first, Ash received help and guidance from his traveling partners, former Pokemon gym leaders Brock and Misty. But, as time passes and Ash grows, he begins teaching his new companions as he also discovers new regions and Pokemon. While Ash is no longer a novice trainer, he remains earnest and determined when chasing his goals.

About Ash Ketchum: Abilities

Over time, Ash becomes a knowledgeable and formidable Pokemon trainer. He frequently places in top levels of Pokemon tournaments, occasionally making it as far as the finals. As such, Ash has mastered elements of Pokemon battles, like type match-ups and move combination strategy.

Ash also developed many personal strengths from his travels. He has impressive stamina from walking around different regions and terrains. Ash is also very personable. He has the ability to make friends easily. In turn, these friends teach Ash different tips about raising and training Pokemon as well as different life lessons.

Other Important Pokemon Characters

The Pokemon franchise has countless characters that shape the current generation of storytelling. The following characters are recurring or currently significant characters related to Ash Ketchum's Pokemon journey.

Pikachu

Pikachu is Ash's first Pokemon, best friend and longest traveling companion, and the Pokemon franchise mascot. When they first met, Pikachu was still fairly wild and defiantly resisted Ash's attempts at authority. However, Ash and Pikachu quickly set aside their differences and became true partners. Pikachu is competitive and adventurous, like Ash, but also enjoys relaxation. Pikachu occasionally exhibits power beyond the expectations of a regular Pikachu. This ability earned the attention of Team Rocket, who follow Ash around the world in hopes of stealing Pikachu.

Gary Oak

Gary Oak is the ten-year-old grandson of Professor Oak and Ash's longtime rival. When they were little, Gary and Ash found a Pokeball while fishing that broke in half as they fought over it. They each kept half as a promise to challenge each other as rivals. At the beginning of the series, Gary was arrogant, condescending, and especially rude toward Ash. Over time, Gary mellows and displays a calmer demeanor, though he still teases Ash and his other rivals, like Goh. Once his dream was to become a Pokemon Master, now Gary hopes to be a top researcher like his grandfather.

Goh

Goh is the secondary protagonist of Pokemon Journeys and Ash's travel companion in the series. Named after the "Pokemon GO" mobile app, Goh represents the Pokemon collecting element of the franchise. Goh's biggest dream is to catch every Pokemon in existence and become a top Pokemon researcher.
