Nendoroid Fullmetal Alchemist Roy Mustang (Re-run)

The Flame Alchemist joins the Nendoroid line with this debut figure from Good Smile Company. Roy Mustang wears his signature, dapper State Military uniform. His long black coat sits draped on his shoulders, sculpted to appear caught in the wind. The custom, spark-producing gloves he uses for alchemy display their intricate transmutation circles with detailed accuracy. The figure also comes with interchangeable arm parts without the gloves to pose Mustang in a sharp salute. Three faceplates depict all sides of Mustang's personality: a serious stare, confident smirk, and his childish, taunting grin. About Roy Mustang

Roy Mustang is the tritagonist of Fullmetal Alchemist. Known as "the Flame Alchemist", Mustang specializes in powerful, fire-based alchemy. He is a State Alchemist and Colonel in the State Military.

About Roy Mustang: Background

One of the youngest colonels in the army, Mustang has a negative reputation among his peers. He is outwardly flirtatious, narcissistic, and self-absorbed. Given his talents, he exudes an arrogant aura that grates on his colleagues and subordinates. He appears most often shirking responsibility at his desk, shirking his responsibilities until a chance for notoriety and advancement appears. In actuality, Mustang is incredibly ambitious and cunning. Most of his outward appearance is an intentional exaggeration of his personality to deflect suspicion.

Mustang's deepest ambition is to become Fuhrer. Initially interested in just alchemy, Mustang joined the military to become State Alchemist after the rise in international tensions. His time in combat scarred Mustang. The death toll he exacted in mass exterminations destroyed his optimism towards the military. This spurred his new ambitions to rise to a position of power to protect more people in a newly structured hierarchy.

About Roy Mustang: Abilities

Mustang's training in the military made him a decently skilled hand-to-hand fighter and marksman. However, his physical abilities are second to his mental abilities. Mustang is a talented strategist and tactician. His dealings in espionage and covert affairs also allow him to move on his own accord within the military undetected.

The skill that earned Mustang his hero status in the Ishval Civil War is his command of flame alchemy. Prior to learning this technique, Mustang displayed a high aptitude for basic physical and biological alchemy. The technique behind flame alchemy came from Mustang's former teacher, Berthold Hawkeye. After acquiring the full knowledge of flame alchemy, Mustang adapted the transmutation circle to fit on his special gloves. The gloves, made of a "pyrotex cloth," create a spark when Mustang snaps his fingers. Flame alchemy fails to work in overly humid or wet conditions.

Other Important Fullmetal Alchemist Characters

In addition to the main characters such as Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric, many of the supporting characters play a significant role in the story.

Riza Hawkeye

Riza Hawkeye is a lieutenant in the State Military. She is a master sharp-shooter and serves as Mustang's personal adjutant. She is the daughter of Berthold Hawkeye, creator of the flame alchemy technique Mustang uses. Hawkeye is quiet and serious. Her peers view her as the ideal, disciplined soldier. Outwardly, Hawkeye's extreme rationality makes her appear cold and distant. However, under her professionalism, Hawkeye is kind and burdened by guilt from the Ishval Civil War.

Hawkeye and Mustang work together very closely. They met when Mustang studied under her father before either of them joined the military. She offered Mustang the knowledge of her father's technique after he died, not wanting to carry the burden of his legacy forever. They express deep trust and devotion to each other. Mustang has charged Hawkeye with shooting him if he ever strays from their plans for the future. Many fans believe their relationship may be secretly romantic in nature.

Maes Hughes

Maes Hughes is an intelligence agent in the State Military and Mustang's best friend. He is jovial, generous, and high-spirited to the point of annoying others. His most defining quality is his obsession with his wife and daughter. In several interactions, Hughes will interrupt serious discussions to show off and brag about the cuteness of his family.

Despite his occasional negligence, Hughes takes his true responsibilities seriously. His time in the Ishval Civil War taught him the necessary horrors of war. During these situations, Hughes acts shrewdly. He is a decisive realist who uses his bubbly personality to shield his loved ones from the darkness of his job. He believes in Mustang's idealism and offers to bear the brunt of the darkness so the idealists can change the world.
