OtapediaGilgamesh Fate/Stay Night - Nendoroid

The Fate series is an undeniably popular franchise that is full of incredibly popular characters across its many games, spin-offs, and anime series. Ever since the release of the original Fate/stay night visual novel in 2004, fans have come to love many of the Servants that appeared in the Fifth Holy Grail War. While this includes fan-favorites like Saber, Lancer, and Archer, one of the most recognizable characters in Fate/stay night is the gaudy and gilded Archer-class Servant, Gilgamesh. His lavish, arrogant personality garnered Gilgamesh a lot of attention from fans and, as such, was made into several kinds of merchandise for fans to collect. One particularly notable example comes from Good Smile Company, the "Nendoroid Fate/stay night Gilgamesh (Re-run)”.

Nendoroid Fate/stay night Gilgamesh (Re-run)

This figure sports an adorable chibi-style aesthetic that turns the unbelievably powerful and pompous Gilgamesh into a cute, collectable figure. Gilgamesh himself wears his shining gold armor, complete with blue detailing, red cloth that matches his eyes, and a pair of gold earrings. Several points of articulation in the figure's limbs and head let owners pose Gilgamesh in a variety of ways and recreate their favorite scenes. At the same time, the two face plates in this figure also allow one to switch Gilgamesh's face from a smug smirk to an intense shout. Gilgamesh's Noble Phantasm, Gate of Babylon, is also recreated in this figure with the addition of a special effect piece.

About Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh is a Heroic Spirit that is based loosely on the protagonist from the real world text, the Epic of Gilgamesh. Like many other Heroic Spirits, Gilgamesh was originally summoned by a magus to fight in the Holy Grail Wars.

About Gilgamesh: Background

In Fate/stay night, Gilgamesh is the Servant of Kirei Kotomine, though Gilgamesh's role as a Servant is rather unique compared to the others. This is due to Gilgamesh and Kirei forming their contract at the end of the Fourth Holy Grail War, which took place ten years before the events of Fate/stay night. Generally speaking, Gilgamesh is an incredibly powerful Servant who lives by his own rules, even when shackled to another person with Command Spells. His main desire is to collect all the treasures in the world and make them his own. Despite being the supposed "King of Heroes", Gilgamesh is rather self-centered and would not hesitate to leave his people to put himself first. Furthermore, Gilgamesh thinks very highly of himself and takes his own beliefs as the truth, resulting in everyone that opposes him receiving his divine wrath.

About Gilgamesh: Abilities

As a Servant, Gilgamesh is one of the most powerful beings in Fate/stay night. When Gilgamesh was still alive, he created a grand treasury to store all of his possessions and wisdom that he collected. This treasury is represented in his main Noble Phantasm, Gate of Babylon. The Gate of Babylon allows Gilgamesh to summon anything that he puts in his treasury, which includes a nearly limitless number of weapons. While this includes plenty of well-crafted, yet mundane swords and spears, it also includes the Noble Phantasms of other Heroic Spirits as well. The most powerful weapon held within the Gate of Babylon is the Sword of Rupture, Ea. This unusual weapon is said to have been created by a god before the conception of humanity, making it impossible to copy. Gilgamesh can also use Ea to perform an attack called Enuma Elish, which ruptures space-time by using inconceivable methods to deliver a deadly blow to its targets.

Other Important Fate/stay night Characters

While Fate/stay night is full of characters that are beloved by many fans, some of the most important characters include Shirou Emiya, Rin Tohsaka, and Sakura Matou.

Shirou Emiya

Shirou Emiya is the protagonist of Fate/stay night and the adopted son of Kiritsugu Emiya. Although he has little knowledge or talent as a magus, he ends up summoning Saber and becoming a participant in the Fifth Holy Grail War. In his childhood, Shirou was a victim of the catastrophic fire caused by the Fourth Holy Grail War and became the only survivor after he was saved and taken in by Kiritsugu. Growing up, Shirou was greatly influenced by Kiritsugu's desire to become a hero of justice, causing him to want to become a hero himself. As a result, Shirou is a young man with a kind personality who is not afraid to put himself in danger to save someone else, even when up against another Servant.

Rin Tohsaka

Rin Tohsaka is the daughter and chosen heir of the Tohsaka family, a powerful family of magi known for their work with magecraft and jewels. Due to her natural talent and dutiful training, Rin is a formidable magus with a range of magic at her disposal. Rin is also a second year student at Homurahara Academy, where she is often perceived as bossy and a perfectionist. That said, Rin also has a clumsy side and is easily flustered by others, especially when it comes to Shirou. During the Fifth Holy Grail War, she summons Archer as her Servant, solidifying her role as a Master.

Sakura Matou

Sakura Matou was formerly a daughter of the Tohsaka family but was adopted by the Matou family since Shinji Matou was seen as unfit to inherit the Matou family's magecraft. On the surface, many see Sakura as a shy and bashful young lady. That said, after being adopted by the Matou family, Sakura was subjected to grueling and inhumane torture under the guise of training. This treatment went on for years, essentially breaking her spirit and ability to feel emotions. That said, she regains some of these feelings after meeting Shirou.
