BanG Dream! Girls Band Party turned out to be a smash success as a smartphone game, anime, and musical enterprise. The inspiration for the series came from voice actress Aimi and her surprise guitar and singing performance at a fan event. Aimi was then cast as the heart of the BanG Dream! universe, Kasumi Toyama. Kasumi embodies the bright, hopeful energy of music and friendship in a likable gaccha protagonist. As of January 2022, Kasumi is one of the few BanG Dream! girls with multiple appearances in the Nendoroid line. Kasumi Toyama's Nendoroid figures include "Nendoroid BanG Dream! The cheerful, star-obsessed band leader from BanG Dream! brings the franchise to the Nendoroid line. Kasumi wears her Hanasakigawa school uniform, a simple sailor style shirt and skirt with double-breasted gold buttons. Her trademark star-bun hairstyle has been faithfully recreated along with her star clip accessories in her bangs. The figure comes with three faceplates: Kasumi's stage wink, her standard smile, and a brighter, blushing grin. Her unique Random Star guitar also comes in chibi proportions, complete with silver star accents on the corners. About Kasumi Toyama: Background

Kasumi is a cheerful and energetic high school girl. She has a positive outlook on life and can always find something to be excited or passionate about. Her bright personality allows her to make friends easily, even with people vastly different from her. Kasumi's earnestness makes her gullible and easy to trick. She also has a tendency to forget important things and unintentionally do things at the last minute.

Kasumi grew up in a loving household with her parents and responsible younger sister, Asuka. One night as a child, Kasumi heard a sparkling sound in her ear while stargazing. She called this sound her "star beat." Since then, Kasumi has chased her star beat, unable to hear it again until a fateful encounter with a star-shaped guitar.

About Kasumi Toyama: Abilities

Kasumi lacks the musical skills of some other characters in the series. However, she makes up for her lack of knowledge with a willingness to learn and passion. Kasumi is a good singer and develops an interest in songwriting. Along with Rimi Ushigome, Kasumi writes all of Poppin'Party's songs. Kasumi's greatest strengths are her intuition and faith in her friends.

As the central character of the BanG Dream! universe, Kasumi has significant relationships with most of the cast. Her strongest relationships, in-universe and in real life, are with her Poppin'Party bandmates.

Tae Hanazono

Tae Hanazono is a fellow student at Hanasakigawa Girls' High School and the lead guitarist of Poppin'Party. She loves music more than anything and has been playing guitar since childhood. She used to work at a live house to save money for her dream guitar. Tae is very relaxed and does things at her own pace. She met Kasumi after school and taught her basic guitar chords. After much convincing, Tae tried playing along with the other members of Poppin'Party and fell in love with performing. She lives with her parents and their 20 rabbits.

Poppin'Party

Poppin'Party is the first band that debuted in the BanG Dream! franchise. They serve as the central band in the anime adaptation. Within the story, Poppin'Party formed during Kasumi's first year of high school as she searched for her star beat. Following Kasumi's energy, the band plays upbeat pop rock songs and dresses with a celestial motif. The first season of the anime follows their creation and debut. The second season focuses on Poppin'Party's efforts to produce a self-sponsored live show. In the third season, Poppin'Party enters the music competition Girls Band Challenge.

In real life, Bushiroad founder Takaaki Kidani developed Poppin'Party around the premise of voice actresses singing and playing instruments. Kasumi's future voice actress, Aimi, was the initial inspiration when she mentioned that she plays guitar. The band debuted in 2015 with two additional members, Ayasa Itou and Rimi Nishimoto. In 2016, Poppin'Party had grown to its full five members and began playing live concerts in character.
