OtapediaTouhou Project 1 - Nendoroid

Touhou Project (lit. "East Project") is originally a series of over 15 top-down scroller games in the genre of "danmaku", or "bullet hell" that first saw light as far back as in 1996 on the NEC PC-9800 platform and developed by a one-man crew, Jun'ya "ZUN" Ōta. Since 2002, the shift went to Windows and Playstation Touhou games later. Most of the games have many new characters and new stories of the game universe, and all have great music.

ZUN declared his IP as free-for-all which is seen to have led to an explosion of dōjin derivatives and game popularity alike. Some of the games released in collaboration with Tasogare Frontier are in a different genre: fighting, including online play.

Moreover, Touhou Project has a multitude of official print works, and millions of beautiful fan artworks at pixiv, nico seiga, deviantArt, and such. The amount of dōjin-arranged music and voice dramas from the games is worth a special mention, its presence being enormous at every Comic Market, even a Touhou-only Reitaisai, and other events for at least a decade.

History of Touhou Project and Nendoroid

Starting with Remilia, Reimu, and Marisa, characters from the Windows platform game series have been part of the Nendoroid project since 2010, and there are twenty of them in total, covering all the major players of the series.

#092 Marisa Kirisame

This Nendoroid recreates the high-spirited and energetic tomboy, human witch Marisa Kirisame. A deuteragonist of Touhou series, she lives in the Forest of Magic, is friends with Reimu although they fight sometimes, and likes appropriating what she likes. Marisa first appeared as a subordinate of Mima and obstructed Reimu on her way to reach the boss. They two battled resulting in Marisa’s loss however, afterward the two became friends and she later appeared on the same side as Reimu. Although she did become friends, during other events Marisa sometimes appeared as a foe again.

Ever the trickster and the prude, a fan of flashy things, she is easy to misjudge as shallow, but all her magic is hard-earned unlike all other mages in Gensōkyō who were born with it. She is a very confident character and likes to stick her nose into trouble because she is curious. Marisa never shuns a challenge, and all in all, she is everyone's favorite.

Her next faceplate shows Marisa with a joyful peppy grin that shows her teeth closed together and her eyes are closed. This expression just seems to make her good mood contagious. Her flying witch's broom is included, too, as well as the trademark Eight Trigrams Furnace for Marisa Kirisame's best combat magic. Her amazing black pointed witches hat with the trademark large white bow can nevertheless be removed.

#074 Reimu Hakurei

This figurine is a Nendoroid-sized depiction of the protagonist of every single Touhou game, the strict but benevolent "red-and-white" human shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei. Since she is the sole shrine maiden she is often called to investigate strange occurrences. Even if she isn’t called, Reimu takes it upon herself to investigate any trouble happening throughout Gensokyo.

She is quite an optimistic girl and very sympathetic even towards people who are her opponents. Even if she battles someone who was her enemy they would then, most of the time, become her friend. Magically gifted and powerful, she is capable of flying without any tools, dispatching any yōkai that disturbs the peace. She has to keep the peace for everyone, although few coins ever land in her shrine's donation box, stressing her out further. Like most Gensōkyō residents, she is very self-assertive and unyielding. However, her favorite pastime is teatime, and she rarely minds a party or any specific guests.

Nendoroid Reimu Hakurei - Touhou Project #074
Price US $40.00
Release Date June 2011
Sculptor JUN(E.V)
Cooperation Nendoron
Height (approximate) 100 mm (3.94")

Additional Parts

Reimu Hakurei has exchangeable expressions for her usual welcoming look and a large relaxed smile (and a traditional teacup) for a happy teatime or more. As a miko on duty, she comes with her trusty exorcist rod and some magical cards for use versus evil spirits. Not shown on the photo is the stand base with the ying yang sign.

The adorable Nendoroid figure of Reimu shows her wearing her usual miko outfit. In her hair is her signature large red bow that she uses to tie her hair in a half-up hairstyle. She wears a red and white dress with a yellow bow tied around her collar. The design is reminiscent of a miko outfit due to the sleeves which are white with red sewing lines around the edges.
