Oozora Subaru - VTuber

Oozora Subaru is a VTuber and a member of Hololive’s 2nd Generation and after her debut in September 2018, has gained an impressive base of followers that enjoy her for her seemingly endless energy and tomboyish personality. As of April 2021, Subaru has amassed over 800,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, making her the second most followed Hololive 2nd Generation member.

Oozora Subaru Background

Oozora Subaru is one of the many members of Hololive Productions. Like many other members of Hololive, Subaru hosts streams of various types of content including video games, karaoke, and chats with viewers. On top of this, she often participates in special events and collaborations that are organized by Hololive.

Oozora Subaru History

Oozora Subaru made her debut on YouTube on September 17th, 2018, and introduced herself as the manager of her school’s MMA and e-sports clubs. Although the growth for most of the VTubers that joined Hololive early on was fairly slow, Subaru eventually celebrated her first major milestone, 100,000 subscribers, on October 23rd, 2019. From that point on, Subaru, like many other members, experienced a significant increase in subscribers, going from 100,000 subscribers in October 2019 to over 500,000 by the end of 2020. As of early 2021, Subaru currently has over 800,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel.

Oozora Subaru Physical Description

Although she has several different outfits, Oozora Subaru is always portrayed as a 17-year-old girl with short, straight brown hair and teal-colored eyes with green and red highlights. Her original outfit consists of a pair of short white and red shorts and a long, neon green and a white striped T-shirt that is accented with red and teal along its edges. This outfit also comes with a variety of accessories, like a whistle and stopwatch that hang around her neck, a matching baseball cap that Subaru wears backward, and a towel and a green megaphone that hang to her side.

Aside from her original outfit, Subaru also often wears a second outfit that she received in July 2019. This outfit consists of a sleeveless grey top and a pair of short blue shorts with suspenders that go over her shoulders. The shirt is also adorned with a black and gold bow with a large star in the center. Her baseball cap is also replaced with a grey hat with a black and red ribbon tied around it. Rather than her classic short, straight hair, this outfit has a side of Subaru’s hair worn as a small braid that is tied with a star-themed hair accessory.

Oozora Subaru Personality

As one might expect from a manager of an MMA club, Subaru is an incredibly energetic girl with a rather tomboyish personality. On top of this, she is also very extroverted and is not afraid to be the one to start a conversation with others. Her seemingly limitless energy is made especially obvious in her 3D streams, where she is seen jumping around, passionately dancing, and so on. Other than her high energy, Subaru is also widely known for her unusually rough voice, which has been compared to Donald Duck whenever she does ASMR content. This, among other things, eventually led to Subaru being closely associated with ducks within the Hololive community. Despite her casual, tomboyish tendencies, Subaru also holds many streams where she simply talks with viewers about her day and whatever else is on her mind. In these streams, she often shows her softer, more feminine side.

Associated Company

Oozora Subaru is one of over 50 members of Hololive Productions, a VTuber agency that is owned and managed by a company named Cover Corporation. Although its CEO originally founded the company to produce AR and VR software, he was inspired by the success of virtual characters like Kizuna Ai and idol groups like AKB48 and shifted the focus of the company to create virtual idols. Many members of Hololive have participated in live concerts and have uploaded original songs on top of their usual live stream and video uploads.

Notable Series

Although many of Subaru’s most popular streams are of building projects in Minecraft, she has recently made a name for herself by playing gacha games like Granblue Fantasy and various entries in the Legend of Zelda series.

Granblue Fantasy

Although she was hesitant to do so for the longest time, Subaru eventually plunged into the world of Granblue Fantasy, possibly after being persuaded by other gacha fanatics like Shirakami Fubuki and Hoshimachi Suisei. Her first Granblue Fantasy stream happened on December 16th, 2020, and became the first of many streams where she does nothing but pull gacha and play the various minigames Granblue has to offer. Despite not understanding the appeal of gacha games beforehand, Subaru admits that she has since become addicted to them.

Legend of Zelda

Beginning on September 20th, 2020, Subaru started playing The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and noted that she enjoyed the series overall and would like to play more Zelda games on stream. Over the following months, she would complete The Wind Waker and move on to The Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. Since Subaru would stream each game multiple times a week as she went through them, her Legend of Zelda playthroughs became a fairly regular series on her channel for a period of time.
