OtapediaHiguchi Kaede - VTuber

Higuchi Kaede's youthful energy and vibrant spirit earned her the nickname "Nijisanji's High School Girl." In 2020, she started a professional music career, delighting fans with her unique voice. As of 2021, Higuchi primarily performs music separate from her channel, posts covers occasionally and streams gaming content.

Higuchi Kaede Background

Higuchi Kaede is a female Japanese VTuber affiliated with Nijisanji. She is a high school student from Virtual Kansai with a loud, rebellious streak. Higuchi was the second VTuber to debut under Nijisanji, streaming the day after Tsukino Mito. She streams around three times per week and announces her schedule on her Twitter.

Higuchi Kaede History

Higuchi made her YouTube debut on February 8, 2018. She started performing original songs early in her career, posting the first on March 25, 2018. In May 2018, she celebrated reaching 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. Fulfilling a personal dream, Higuchi performed her first solo live in January 2019. During the live, she debuted her first commercially available single "KANA DERO." In June 2019, she performed her second solo live in a virtual reality event. She appeared in person again during the Kyo to Aki to Nijisanji event at the Kyoto International Manga Fair in September 2019. Higuchi signed to the music label Lantis in 2020 and released her first major single in March. In November 2020, she released her debut major-label album. Higuchi performed a live concert of songs from her album in February 2021. As of April 2021, Higuchi has over 400,000 subscribers on YouTube and 330,000 followers on Twitter.

Higuchi Kaede Physical Description

Higuchi is a tall high school girl with long silver hair and purple eyes. She usually wears her hair in her signature ponytail, tied with a white ribbon. Her unique feature is a beauty mark beneath her right eye. In her standard outfit, she wears a school uniform with a black blazer. She wears the blazer open, exposing her tan cardigan layered over a white collared shirt and blue plaid tie. Two small details include the red pin on her jacket and two white pins in her hair.

As one of Nijisanji's first members, Higuchi has several outfits for seasonal, commemorative, and holiday events. Most of her casual designs feature trendy styles, such as wide-leg pants and oversized denim jackets. Her themed outfits are more elaborate and reflect tropes similar to her personality, like a military uniform-inspired design for New Year's 2019.

Higuchi Kaede Personality

Of the JK Gumi, Higuchi has the most stereotypical schoolgirl-like personality. She often uses slang and struggles to drop her Kansai accent and speak standard Japanese. Her struggles to manage her speech leads to her creating her own expressions that become popular among her fanbase. Along with her unique speech patterns, Higuchi has a unique laugh that distinguishes her from other VTubers. Higuchi can be somewhat intimidating to others due to her loud, forward behavior. However, she is kind, earnest, and values her relationship with her family above everything else. Her love of music extends beyond her singing. She plays trumpet in her school's marching band and loves idol franchises, such as Love Live!

Associated Company

Higuchi debuted in Nijisanji's inaugural generation of VTubers. She differentiated herself from her cohort through her singing talents, setting a musical precedent for future creators. In 2020, she joined the legion on Nijisanji singers signed with major record labels to distribute her original songs.

JK Gumi

Higuchi's most significant group memberships involve other VTubers from Nijisanji's launch. JK Gumi, short for "Joshi Kousei Gumi" or High School Girl Gang, refers to Higuchi, Tsukino Mito, and Shizuka Rin. Together, the trio appeared in the first live collaboration event between Nijisanji VTubers and a third party.

Notable Releases/Videos

Higuchi streams irregularly and usually runs multiple series at once. In her early days, she posted more song videos than streaming. Over time she started playing more video games and streaming like other members in Nijisanji. Due to her early channel activities, Higuchi has released more original songs than any other Nijisanji VTuber.

Mabinogi

Higuchi started her career as a VTuber primarily to promote her favorite video game, Mabinogi. Mabinogi is an MMORPG from Korean publisher Nexon. The game is named after a Welsh anthology of legends and takes inspiration from Welsh mythology in its world-building. Higuchi streamed her Mabinogi adventures irregularly from November 2018 until August 2019. Each stream lasts about an hour and features Higuchi attempting an in-game task or introducing other VTubers to the game. In December 2020, Higuchi appeared in a promotional video for the game on Nexon's YouTube channel. Higuchi included the promo video in her Mabinogi playlist.

Singing Videos

Higuchi is one of Nijisanji's most prolific singers with over 90 singing videos posted on her channel. Her most popular video is one of her early original songs, "Maple Dancer." Posted on July 13, 2018, the video was her first to reach one million views. Her major-label debut single, "Marble," received a promotional music video that Higuchi posted on February 23, 2020. The song reflected a higher production quality than her early original songs and sparked interest in her music career. Higuchi also performs covers, often with Nijisanji's Love Live fan group, i's. The other members, Lize Helesta and Rindou Mikoto, also host covers on their channel. Their cover of "Soldier Game" is the second video to earn one million views on Higuchi's channel.

Other Activities

In early 2021, Higuchi recorded the theme song for the second season of the anime I'm Standing on A Million Lives.
