Mystic Gohan Dragon Ball Z - Figures

The Dragon Ball series has seen huge success since the very first chapter in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984. Quickly gaining popularity an anime adaptation was aired from 1986 to 1989. Following this, Dragon Ball Z was aired from 1989 to 1996. Dragon Ball Z is what took the overseas anime and manga world by storm in the ’90s. Due to Dragon Ball Z’s massive influence, more people became interested in Japanese manga and anime leading to a larger and more robust industry. One of the central themes of Dragon Ball Z is powering up to defeat a strong foe. There are a number of ways to power up; fusion, transformations, consumables like the tree of might’s fruit or the mystical water, and then there is one more—perhaps the most interesting powered up character—Mystic Gohan. Utilizing Elder Kai’s potential unlocking ability, Son Gohan powered up to become what was at the time the strongest unfused character in the series. Dragon Ball Super Chosenshi Retsuden: Chapter 6 (Including Mystic Gohan Figure)

Mystic Gohan appears in a very dramatic fashion when he arrives back on Earth from Elder Kai's planet. Instead of his typical Piccolo style clothing, he decides to wear a gi much like his father Goku’s. His mystic form keeps his hair black and somewhat similar to the Super Saiyan style. Trained by Goku and Piccolo, Gohan’s offensive and defensive skills are second to none, as seen in the pose held by this figure. The definition in the muscle of his arms is fantastic and sling with the clothing folds really helps to capture the 3D image.

As part of a box set, Bandai’s Adverge SP2 Box Set Gohan is 3” tall, but lacks no detail, especially in facial expression and proportion. A powerful stance, taken directly from the manga/anime; moments before engaging with the menacing Super Buu. Mystic Gohan wears the same Gi as his father Goku, including the same color wrist bands, sash, and boots; all of which are very well colored with incredible 3D shading.

Dragon Ball Shodo 6 (Including Mystic Gohan Figure)

Bandai has delivered an affordable yet fully articulated Mystic Gohan figure. With coloring and shading straight from the anime, Mystic Gohan is able to hold a number of classic poses. For dynamic displays, articulated models are the obvious choice, as any number of scenes can be recreated.

About Mystic Gohan

Gohan is the son of protagonist Son Goku. He is known for having an incredible latent power that can only be accessed by extreme emotional distress. He is also the first of two sons, and as such his mother Chi-chi forced him to study and become a scholar. Gohan was slated to become the main protagonist after Goku but after backlash from the fans the decision was rescinded.

Background

Gohan has always been afraid to fight. From the very beginning. Not to mention having had a tough upbringing where at the age of 4 or 5 after seeing his father die, he is taken by his father’s killer and abandoned in a forest as ‘training’. As time goes by though, Piccolo and Gohan develop an almost father and son bond. This leads Gohan to choose Piccolo’s clothing style instead of his father Goku’s gi. Gohan has been instrumental in the series in a number of ways, from distracting Frieza during the Frieza saga to defeating Cell in the Cell saga. Gohan became a minor character in the Majin Buu saga, spending most of his time as a high school student instead of as a fighter. Gohan however had his latent potential unlocked by the Elder Kai and became the strongest unfused character in the series.

Special Abilities

Gohan is a very intelligent fighter and more than capable of holding his own. He is able to use the Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2 forms to boost his power and eventually receives a mystical form rendering the Super Saiyan forms obsolete. Piccolo’s training gave Gohan the Masenko, which he used to great effect against Frieza. Training with Goku gave him the Kamehameha. Gohan takes the best parts of Goku and Piccolo and puts them together.

Other Important Dragon Ball Z Characters

Gohan was fathered by Goku until the Raditz attack but raised and mentored by Piccolo from the Saiyan saga until the beginning of the Androids saga. Both of these characters have featured prominently in Gohan’s life and will undoubtedly continue to do so.

Piccolo

Piccolo is originally the ultimate enemy of Son Goku. Murdered by Goku blasting through his torso headfirst, Demon King Piccolo sent an egg to the furthest reaches of the Earth. An inhabitable, inhospitable place in the mountains. This egg came to be Piccolo Junior. Piccolo trained for years to grow strong enough to overcome his mortal foe, Goku. The two fought at the Tenkaichi Budokai World Tournament, ultimately ending in Goku’s victory. Before a rematch could happen, Raditz came to Earth bringing a new powerful threat. Goku and Piccolo teamed up to take him out. In the effort though, Goku was killed by Piccolo’s special beam cannon while holding Raditz still. Raditz with his dying breath told of the two even more powerful Saiyans making their way to Earth. Hearing this Piccolo took Gohan to the forest and began to train him and raise him as a warrior.

Son Goku

Son Goku is Gohan’s father and training partner. It was Goku who initially helped a hesitant Gohan reach Super Saiyan level. In the hyperbolic time chamber, while training for the upcoming battle with Cell, Goku and Gohan trained hard together. Deciding that it was better to maintain the Super Saiyan form while going about daily life. This would in turn reduce the power drain of the form to a minimum. Goku was also responsible for Gohan reaching Super Saiyan 2. During his battle with Cell, Goku tapped out and asked Gohan to take over, which went well until Cell self-destructed, killing Goku and King Kai. Finally, Goku is also in part responsible for Gohan achieving the mystic form. Elder Kai was trapped inside the Z-Sword that Gohan was training with and had no way out, until Goku being Goku, decided to swing it at the hardest material in the universe, breaking it and releasing the Elder Kai.
