OtapediaBroly Dragon Ball Z - Figures

Dragon Ball Z is the anime that really brought Japanese animation mainstream attention. Airing from 1989 to 1996 in Japan, Dragon Ball Z was a commercial and cult phenomenon. After rising rapidly in the ranks of popularity polls following the highly successful Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball, the martial arts based Shonen Jump story took Japan by storm. It became so popular that the manga and anime spawned fifteen theatrical movie releases from 1989’s Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone to 2015’s Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. It was 1993’s Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan that would bring the world Broly. Despite his non-canon status, Broly enjoyed massive fame among fans until 2018’s reimagining of the character in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, which officially brought the character into Dragon Ball canon. The following figures are three versions of the reimagined Broly and one of the original.

Ichiban Figure Dragon Ball History of Rivals Broly

Exploding with rage, Broly enters the fray with little more than anger and a desire for revenge. By fighting Vegeta, Broly quickly began to grow exponentially stronger as he learned how to fight an intelligent opponent. Broly eventually enters the form that this figure is based on, his Wrath form. With this newfound form, Broly has access to the incredible power of the Great Ape without physically transforming. By maintaining his speed and reflexes and with greatly enhanced strength and aggression Broly becomes a more than formidable foe for the Saiyan prince. His hair is raised up and pointy like a Super Saiyan’s, but it remains his base black color. Broly is also equipped with a new set of Frieza armor, though he keeps wearing the green furry ear from his only friend, Ba. Broly takes a powering up stance as he prepares to continue the fight.

Ichiban Figure Dragon Ball Rising Fighters Super Saiyan Broly

The seemingly accidental death of his father set up by Frieza pushed an already dangerous Broly over the edge and into his Super Saiyan form. Even with their immensely powerful Super Saiyan Blue forms, Super Saiyan Broly was too much for Vegeta and Goku to handle. This figure shows Broly post-transformation with his Frieza Force armor intact and with no visible damage. With his arms outstretched, Broly is ready to fire everything he has at Goku and Vegeta in their most dangerous battle yet.

Dragon Ball Super Super Saiyan Broly Full-Power Z-Battle Figure

After losing all sense of reasoning, Broly transforms into the Legendary Super Saiyan. His power is unfathomable. So much power is exerted by Broly and Gogeta during their battle that realities are shattered. Completely out of control, Gogeta almost resorts to killing Broly with a charged Final Kamehameha, but Broly is luckily wished away by Cheelai before the blast can land. With boulders for shoulders, the musculature of Broly is something to behold. His size increase is all the more impressive given the fact that his speed is completely unaffected. His Frieza Force armor now gone and his skin color is notably lighter than his base form. The figure also keeps the slightly green-tinted hair the Legendary Super Saiyan transformation gives Broly, making this figure look exactly like the character from the movie.

Ichiban Figure Dragon Ball Super Saiyan Broly 93'

No collection would be complete without the original nightmare. Making his first appearance in 1993’s movie Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan, the titular antagonist is a force to be reckoned with. Completely insane as a result of his tragic past and uncontrollable power, Broly is an agent of pure destruction. Although Goku, Gohan, Trunks and Vegeta face off against Broly in their Super Saiyan forms, the massive Saiyan is completely unfazed. With his extreme muscularity, golden green-tinted hair, and regal outfit, Broly draws a fist and barrels towards his enemy to deliver a crushing blow.

About Broly

Broly appears in the Dragon Ball franchise in two separate instances. The first time he appears is in 1993 as the Legendary Super Saiyan. As an infant, Broly was tormented by Goku’s endless crying, as they sat next to each other in the Saiyan nursery. This left a permanent psychological scar on Broly’s subconscious, leading him to explode into a furious rage whenever he hears the name “Kakarot”. After his initial defeat, Broly later appeared as the main antagonist in two other movies: Broly - Second Coming and Bio-Broly.

The latest iteration of Broly is in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie. This version of Broly has been completely rewritten. Instead of being evil and taking joy in hurting others, Dragon Ball Super Broly is rather peaceful and timid. After being exiled to a hostile planet, Broly and his father Paragus lived together in an incredibly harsh environment, giving Broly no chance to develop any social skills until they are found by Cheelai many years later. Paragus held a deep desire for revenge toward the Saiyans and wanted to use Broly’s brute strength to make it a reality. Despite his lack of willingness, Broly is sent to fight Vegeta and Goku on Earth. Paragus kept a powerful shock collar around Broly’s neck to keep him from losing control, but the remote was stolen by Cheelai due to its inhumane nature. As such, Broly gains an incredible amount of power, but loses control of himself in the process. This leads to Goku and Vegeta fuse into Gogeta to defeat the Legendary Super Saiyan, though Broly is saved before the final blow could be delivered. Goku understands that Broly isn't a bad person and even visits afterwards to take him some supplies on the condition that they can spar sometimes.
