OtapediaDragon Ball Super - Figures

From 2015 to 2018, the Dragon Ball franchise saw a revival at the hands of Toei Animation and master manga artist Akira Toriyama with a new television anime series called Dragon Ball Super. With a slew of new and interesting story arcs, characters, and techniques to display, Dragon Ball Super became not only a worthy follow up to
Dragon Ball Z, but gained massive worldwide success of its own. It goes without saying that the Dragon Ball Super figures are nothing short of excellent as well. Three of the most popular characters and moments in the series, Full Power Jiren’s full power attack, Resurrection F’s post-transformation Golden Frieza, and Vegeta and Future Trunks’ family Galick Gun against Zamasu and Goku Black.

Jiren (Dragon Ball Super Chosenshi Retsuden Vol. 2 Chapter 1)

Jiren is a mortal from Universe 11 that is said to be even more powerful than the gods. Though he usually has a rather worry-free demeanor, the forces of Universe 7 push Jiren’s strength and personal philosophies to their limits, causing him to explode in rage. Jiren has gone on most of his life by relying on himself and no one else, which eventually allowed him to become so powerful. This strength was truly tested for the first time after Goku and Frieza formed an unlikely alliance. With no desire to back down and give up, Jiren continues to push forward. This figure shows off Jiren’s incredibly muscular body as he readies himself to throw a devastating punch. His battle-damaged appearance also gives this figure a unique appearance.

Golden Frieza (Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' Super Structure Collection Vol. 4)

This figure features the original galactic emperor, Frieza, in his Golden form. Once humiliated by Goku and Namek and again by Future Trunks on Earth, Frieza returns for revenge once more. With the Frieza empire in disarray, Sorbet, Frieza's second in command, decides to use the Earth's Dragon Balls to wish back the evil tyrant and heal him in a regeneration tank. Following his recovery, Frieza embarks on a mission to train and take his ultimate revenge on Son Goku. After his transformation into Golden Frieza, Goku and Vegeta were surprised to see just how much more powerful Frieza had become. Smirking arrogantly and completely self-assured, Frieza is standing ready to fight. Unfortunately, however, Frieza had issues with stamina and ki control with this form that leads to his defeat.

Vegeta & Trunks (Dragon Ball Super Super Master Stars Diorama II)

In many times throughout the Dragon Ball series, especially in the movies, the villains have been beaten by a Son family Kamehameha. In Dragon Ball Super, however, instead of the Son family Kamehameha, there is the Vegeta family Galick Gun. After fighting Zamasu and Goku Black, Future Trunks and Vegeta team up to fire a massive combined Galick Gun. Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta and Super Saiyan Future Trunks, who are both in battle-damaged outfits, launch their father-son duo attack with their arms stretched out in front of them. Both characters stand on a beautifully designed purple and blue cloud-shaped base featuring Shenron and the Dragon Ball logo (complete with the one-star Dragon Ball) while a purple blast design sits behind the two characters.

About the Characters

Jiren is considered to be the main antagonist of the Tournament of Power arc due to his overwhelming power. He is the last major opponent left standing other than fighters from Universe 7. Although he is a reserved and powerful fighter, he often lacks the ability to trust others, opting to fight by himself rather than teaming up with others in his group. Frieza’s first appearance occurred fairly early on in Dragon Ball Z, where he was the antagonist of the Namek saga. After living a life without any competition, Frieza ruled over his empire with an iron fist and wasn’t afraid to use extreme measures to get his way. When he pushes Goku to his limits and causes him to transform into a Super Saiyan, he is defeated in battle for the first time. Vegeta, on the other hand, is the major antagonist of the Saiyan saga, but later teams up with Goku during the Frieza saga. Later in the series, Future Trunks appears and reveals that he is the son of the proud Saiyan. Though the relationship between the two was rather distant at first, Trunks and Vegeta grow closer as the series progressed.

About Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball Super is a series in the Dragon Ball franchise that is set after the Majin Buu saga as if Dragon Ball GT had never happened. Before Super, two canonical movies were produced under the Dragon Ball Z series, “Battle of Gods” and “Resurrection ‘F’”. These were later adapted into the Super series as the first two arcs. Following these two sagas, completely original arcs like the Goku Black saga and the Tournament of Power saga were created as well. The Universe 6 saga features many of the Z-Warriors as they fight against the strongest fighters of Universe 6 in a bet to win that universe’s set of Dragon Balls. The Copy Vegeta saga is an anime-only arc that has Vegeta’s power stolen by an unusual creature from an alien planet. The Goku Black saga, which is possibly the highlight of the series, depicts a mad Kai named Zamasu that sets out on a mission to destroy humanity by stealing Goku’s body, becoming a character known as Goku Black. The final saga, the Tournament of Power saga, is similar to the Universe 6 saga, but on a much grander scale. This tournament is a multi-universe battle royale where the winner receives a wish from the Super Dragon Balls while the losers are erased from the multiverse. Although the anime finished airing in 2018, the manga series illustrated by Toriyama’s assistant Toyotaro continues to be published weekly.
