OtapediaUltra Instinct Goku Dragon Ball Super - Figures

Dragon Ball Z is one of the most influential anime titles of all time. This is without a doubt proven by its incredible track record all over the world, reaching amazing levels of popularity from the US to the UK, to South America, France, Spain. The anime series based on the long-running manga of the same name, which was written and illustrated by the genius manga artist Akira Toriyama. Dragon Ball Z first aired in Japan in 1989 and ran all the way until 1996 and follows the story of Son Goku throughout many different stages of his life. Although Super Saiyan Blue seemed to be the peak of Goku’s power, he surprised the audience again with yet another incredible transformation. This time he transformed into a state called Autonomous Ultra Instinct. In this form, he is said to move purely by unconscious instinct rather than using strategy or skill to attack or defend. Here are some popular figures of Goku in his Ultra Instinct form.

Ultra Instinct -Sign- Goku (Dragon Ball Z Blood of Saiyans Special Ver. Vol. 2)

Goku unlocks the Ultra Instinct form in stages. The first couple of times he becomes able to use the form, he is pushed into it by an external factor, but it is an incomplete form. His hair color stays the same, but his pupils become silver and his aura changes color. In this form, he is able to defend and dodge almost any attack but lacks the offensive power to launch any substantial attacks. He first obtains this form when he inadvertently absorbs a spirit bomb that was deflected by the powerful Jiren. This figure has Goku wearing a tattered blue and orange gi as he stands in a serious battle stance.

  • Height (approx.): 16 cm | 6.3"

Ultra Instinct Goku (Ichiban Figure Dragon Ball Ultimate Variation)

This is the final, fully unlocked form of Ultra Instinct. Goku is able to access this form much later in the battle. All hope seems lost and Goku is about to be obliterated by a huge ki blast from Jiren when suddenly he appears as the dust settles and attacks Jiren, landing a number of strong hits in the blink of an eye. His hair and eyes settle and become a silver color. His turtle school gi is more or less completely destroyed, with the top half missing and huge tears in the knees.

Ultra Instinct Goku (Super Dragon Ball Heroes Transcendence Art Vol. 4)

Goku appears also in Super Dragon Ball Heroes, where he fights the diabolically strong Cumber. Cumber already incredibly strong in his base and Super Saiyan forms, but is nigh unstoppable in his Super Saiyan 3 form. Goku stands up and enters Ultra Instinct form to deflect Cumber’s ki beam and knocks him out with a Kamehameha. He then once again enters the Ultra Instinct state when fighting against Kamioren and manages to crack the giant machine mutant with a Kamehameha, then shatters it with a punch. Wearing his alternate capsule corporation gi, Goku has suffered a lot of damage as can be seen by the half torn clothing he wears.

  • Manufacturer: Banpresto
  • Specifications: Painted, non-articulated, non-scale figure
  • Height (approx.): 18 cm | 7.1"

Ultra Instinct Goku (Dragon Ball Super Chosenshi Retsuden Vol. 2 Chapter 1)

This figure shows Ultra Instinct Goku mid-attack. The first form of Ultra Instinct unlocks only Goku’s instinctive defense. The fully mastered form, however, also drastically increases his offensive power, though the strain put on Goku’s body by using the form is not to be underestimated. The unique silver color of Goku’s hair and eyes note that this is the fully mastered form of Ultra Instinct. The pose of this figure has Goku jumping up with one arm out, as if he was about to unleash an energy blast.

About Ultra Instinct Son Goku

Son Goku is the protagonist of Dragon Ball series and is often awarded the most powerful techniques and transformations. As a natural fighting genius that studied as a student of the immensely skilled Master Roshi, Goku is able to hold his own against enemies even stronger than he is. Goku has never won any of his fights through brute force alone. This is most evident when fighting Evil King Piccolo, Raditz, Vegeta, Majin Buu, and now Jiren. Ultra Instinct is essentially the perfect form for Goku, complimenting his innate understanding of the mechanics of fighting with his Saiyan ability to learn and grow more quickly from battle experiences. Master Roshi himself displayed something similar to Ultra Instinct in the Dragon Ball Super manga when he is shown to be able to dodge some strikes from Jiren, much to everyone's surprise. Beerus also is shown to be irritated at the sight of Ultra Instinct Goku, most likely in a state of disbelief due to having difficulty with achieving the form himself. It is not, however, a conscious transformation, but more of a survival instinct. After the tournament, Goku tells Vegeta that he did not choose to use the form, but that it happened automatically.

Reviews

The new silver haired form drew some initial criticism with many fans, as there were some complaints that there are too many new forms and they are almost always written in as a lazy way to overcome stronger enemies and continue the storyline. After some time and explanation of the form, fans realized the limitations (being that Goku can not consciously use the form and that using it causes massive strain on his body) and came to accept that Ultra Instinct is more like a technique born of fighting mastery than a transformation like Super Saiyan.
