About Sailor Moon
Written first in 1991 by Naoko Takeuchi for Kodansha Comics, Sailor Moon is a story of an ordinary Japanese schoolgirl named Usagi Tsukino that grows up in the Azabu-Jyuban section of Tokyo. One day, she makes friends with an unusual talking black cat named Artemis, who seeks to awaken her to her destiny by giving her a magical brooch that transforms Usagi Tsukino into the superheroine known as Sailor Moon (The Soldier of Love and Justice).
She discovers later that she is the reincarnated form of the Princess of the Moon Kingdom and is descended from a super race that existed in the Silver Millennium. She has lived multiple incarnations and has superpowers that surface when she awakens to her destiny to save Earth from the forces of evil. She later forms the Sailor Soldiers to protect the “Silver Crystal” and use it to save planet Earth from villains that come from her past life. She also has two drastic sides to her personality, as she is known for being both a brave superheroine and a childish crybaby. The Sailor Soldiers she forms consist of five members, including herself. They are supernatural female fighters who protect the solar system from evil. First, there is a serious and studious girl named Ami Mizuno who becomes Sailor Mercury. Next, a girl with a strong character and a tall figure named Makoto Kino becomes Sailor Jupiter. Then, a Shinto shrine maiden named Rei Hino becomes Sailor Mars. After that, an aspiring young idol singer named Minako Aino becomes Sailor Venus. Together, the group of four join Sailor Moon to achieve her interplanetary mission of saving the galaxy.
