OtapediaYu-Gi-Oh - Figures

Yu-Gi-Oh! is a franchise that exists as a manga, anime, and trading card game. The manga was serialized in “Shonen Jump Magazine” in 1996 and ran for 8 years until 2014. Although an anime adaptation was produced earlier, the second anime that focuses expressly on the card game from 2000 popularized the series worldwide. With this global popularity, the franchise has created a variety of merchandise and goods which of course include the card game. In addition, figures based on characters from Yu-Gi-Oh! series have become widely sought after. Here is an example of some popular figures are the ArtFX J Yami Yugi, ArtFX J Seto Kaiba, and figma Dark Magician Girl (Rerun).

About the Characters

Yami Yugi is the name given to the main character’s alter ego, Yugi Mutou. Yugi is a game aficionado and stumbles into a puzzle called the Millenium Puzzle. Upon solving it, he releases the soul of an ancient pharaoh. He is henceforth referred mostly to as “The Pharaoh” but is popularly nicknamed Yami Yugi since he takes over Yugi Mutou’s body, but has a personality that is notably darker than the caring boy.

Seto Kaiba is the first main rival to the protagonist Yugi. We are introduced to him as the heir to a wealthy and powerful family. Kaiba is a prodigious gamer and seems to put winning and achieving his goals over anything and anyone else. After learning that Yugi’s grandfather has a legendary “Blue-Eyes White Dragon” card, Kaiba becomes blind with desire for the card and ends up dueling Yami Yugi. Yami Yugi uses his powers on Kaiba to purge his heart of evil, which sends him into a coma, from which he awakens later a different person. Still, he sees Yugi as his rival and constantly gets in his way.

Dark Magician Girl is a popular card that is often used in Yugi’s deck. In appearance, she is much like Yugi’s signature monster card, the Dark Magician, although her outfit is much cuter and feminine. Although she makes limited appearances at first, this monster gains popularity and gains more screen time as the series progresses. Her character design has made her one of the most popular monster cards of the game, rivaling that of the actual Dark Magician.

About Yu-Gi-Oh!

Yu-Gi-Oh! started as a manga authored by Kazuki Takahashi. The plot follows Yugi Mutou, a game lover who solves the Millenium Puzzle, awakening the soul of an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh who has lost his memories. The manga features a wide array of different games, unlike the anime which focuses mainly on the card game. Yugi’s friends learn of the Pharaoh’s soul trapped inside Yugi’s puzzle and they decide to help him in his quest to recover the pharaoh’s memories. As the story continues, they learn that there are other Millenium artifacts spread throughout the world.

The manga features a card game called “Duel Monsters” that eventually inspired a fully developed trading card game of the same name. This card game was a smashing hit worldwide, giving way to many game adaptations for almost all consoles from the PlayStation to the Game Boy Advance. Many further installments of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime have been released since the original series finished. They all take place in the same universe, but have no meaningful connection to the original plot.
