OtapediaGoku Black Dragon Ball Super - Figures

With its first ever episode airing in Japan on April 26th 1989, Dragon Ball Z shot to instant stardom in the anime world. In a time filled with classics, Dragon Ball Z still managed to stand head and shoulders above the rest. True to the saying ‘all good things come to an end’, however, Dragon Ball Z aired its final episode on January 31st, 1996. Dragon Ball fans were then treated to the entertaining (however far less popular) Dragon Ball GT from February 7th, 1996 until November 19th, 1997. The franchise lay dormant for some time until the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods was released. After sparking interest in the franchise once again, a revival followed with a second canonical movie and the series Dragon Ball Super. Perhaps the greatest villain of the Super series, Goku Black, already has an incredible variety of figures available, with four of the current best-sellers below.

Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black (Dragon Ball Super Grandista Manga Dimensions Figure)

Inspired by his sparring session with Son Goku, Zamasu thought there was no better way to overcome the powerful god-ki using mortal than to simply become him. Not only did Zamasu steal Son Goku’s body by using the Super Dragon Balls, but he managed to learn how to increase his power. So much so, that he unlocked the fearsome Super Saiyan Rosé form. In his typical black gi, white boots and red sash, Goku Black smirks as he shows off his newfound power. This extremely well colored figure features very exquisitely contrasting paintwork that truly makes this figure special.

  • Manufacturer: Banpresto
  • Specifications: Painted, non-articulated, non-scale PVC figure with stand
  • Height (approx.): 280 mm | 11”

Goku Black (Dragon Ball Legends Collab Figure)

After terrorizing Future Trunks’ timeline with his ever increasing godly powers, Zamasu’s goal is to eradicate all mortals. Not only does Goku Black carry out his mission with vigilance, but as seen by the evil grin on his face, he clearly takes delight in it too. Dressed in his black Kai uniform with red sash, Goku Black readies to fire a ki blast as he looks forward to the results. Highly detailed shadows and paintwork really bring this figure to life.

  • Manufacturer: Banpresto
  • Specifications: Painted, non-articulated, non-scale figure
  • Height (approx.): 23 cm | 9.1"

Super Saiyan Rosé Goku Black (Dragon Ball Z Banpresto World Figure Colosseum 2 Vol. 9)

Growing stronger and stronger, Goku Black even surprises himself after he unlocks incredible powers during the fight with Vegeta and Goku. During the duo’s third and final trip back to Trunks’ timeline, Goku Black becomes so powerful in his Super Saiyan Rose form that he manages to fashion himself a ki scythe. While using this new fearsome weapon, Goku Black slices into reality itself and opens a dark energy rift that even he didn't understand. With his left hand outstretched for balance, Goku Black winds up for a big swing of this deadly ki weapon. A highly detailed frowning brow and nasty smirk show his true intentions.

  • Manufacturer: Banpresto
  • Sculptor: Jem Gonzales
  • Specifications: Painted, non-articulated, non-scale figure
  • Height (approx.): 14 cm | 5.5"

Goku Black (S.H.Figuarts Dragon Ball Super)

Goku’s body has been stolen before. Captain Ginyu of the Ginyu Force stole Goku’s body but somehow never managed to unlock its true potential. Zamasu, on the other hand, is a completely different story. Not only did he unlock the power and potential of Goku’s body, but he was able to exponentially increase its power after every battle. With this, he also learned how to use the Turtle School’s most devastating ki attack, the Kamehameha. The name of this variation matches the character’s name perfectly, the Black Kamehameha. This twist on a classic is one of Goku Black’s most powerful signature attacks. After taking a wide stance, Goku Black cups his hands, draws back his arms, and prepares to launch the devastating blast. Since this attack is used in his base form and Super Saiyan Rosé form, this figure includes optional parts to switch between the two.

  • Manufacturer: Bandai
  • Specifications: Painted, articulated, non-scale PVC & ABS figure
  • Height (approx.): 140 mm | 5.5"
  • Parts Included:
  • 5 Pairs of Optional Right Hands
  • 2 Pairs of Optional Right Hands
  • 3 Optional Expressions (2 for Rosé)
  • Optional Rose Hair
  • Kamehameha Effect Part
  • Rose Effect Part Set

About Goku Black

Goku Black started his life exactly the same way Son Goku did, until his body was stolen by a jealous and wicked Kai called Zamasu. Zamasu used the Super Dragon Balls to wish for Goku’s body before killing his family. After this, he went on a rampage killing all of the other Kai and eventually almost everyone on Earth, where he came to be known as Goku Black. After teaming up with his future self in his original Zamasu body, the pair became an unstoppable enemy for the lone warrior Future Trunks. Eventually, through multiple trips going back and forth in time (which is illegal in the world of Dragon Ball) Goku, Vegeta and Future Trunks manage to bring an end to the diabolical Kai’s evil scheme once and for all. Upon his death, however, the fused Zamasu’s will lived on and began spreading through the universe. Goku was luckily able to summon Zeno to erase the malevolent super god.

Reviews

Goku Black is thought of as Dragon Ball Super’s greatest villain. His popularity is so great that fans are able to overlook the somewhat complicated nature of the arc in which he appears. Some fans claim his motives and backstory to be some of the best writing in any Dragon Ball saga yet. While others compare his saga to the Cell saga with the frequent use of time travel and timeline manipulation. Regardless, love him or hate him, Goku Black proved to be one of the deadliest characters the Z Warriors have faced yet. Coming so close to losing everything in their battles with the villain, the sense of urgency and danger helped propel Goku Black to the top of the villain totem.
