Picking up five years after the end of the original Dragon Ball anime, Goku is now a grown man and father to his son, Gohan. At this point, an alien named Raditz arrives on Earth and informs Goku that he’s really a member of the Saiyan race sent to Earth with a mission to conquer it. Goku refuses to complete his original mission causing Raditz to kidnap Gohan and leading Goku to team up with former foe Piccolo to get him back.
Later, Goku trains under King Kai and faces off against Saiyans Nappa and Vegeta with the help of Gohan and his friend Krillin. Hearing about some other Dragon Balls on the planet Namek, Bulma, Gohan and Krillin head off to find them but discover the tyrannous Lord Freeza already waiting there. Finally, Vegeta teams up with the gang to fight the Ginyu Force until Goku arrives and makes use of his Super Saiyan abilities.
