Kratos God of War - Figures
God of War is a hack-and-slash franchise that was first released for the PlayStation 2 in 2005. The series is developed primarily by Santa Monica Studio, though two entries in the series were developed by Ready at Dawn. The most recent entry, simply titled God of War, was released in 2018 for the PlayStation 4. Although most of the series is set exclusively with locations and characters from Greek mythology, 2018’s God of War introduces Norse mythology into the mix and is set in Midgard. Since this game was the first major sequel to the series in eight years, fans highly anticipated the game’s release and were eager to add to their collections. One notable type of merchandise that fans like to collect are figures, which recreate characters from a given series into a physical 3-D model. While the previous item strived to create a simplified, cuter design, this set tries to recreate the original designs of Kratos and his son instead. That said, both Kratos and Atreus are both fully articulated and include plenty of weapons and items from the game to help recreate iconic scenes from the game. Such items include Kratos’ Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos, as well as the head of Mimir and various flame and frost effects.

Pop! Games: God of War - Kratos w/ Axe Figure
This figure from the instantly recognizable Pop! series from Funko takes Kratos’ brutal design and shrinks it down into a small vinyl figure. Although much of his original appearance is simplified, many iconic aspects of his design are retained, like the scar on his right eye, the red tattoo that runs over his left eye, and his unkempt beard. He also wields his Leviathan Axe in both hands, completing the look of the figure.

About Kratos
Kratos is the main protagonist throughout the God of War series and the father of Atreus. The following information offers a brief overview of his character.
Background
Although this went unknown to him for most of his life, Kratos was one of the many illegitimate children of Zeus and was supposed to be executed at the order of Hera, Zeus’ wife. Zeus felt pity for the innocent child, however, and simply left him with his mother. In his youth, Kratos dreamed of becoming a Spartan warrior along with his brother, Deimos, though this dream would not fully become reality. Deimos was taken by the gods in an attempt to prevent a prophecy saying Zeus would be killed by one of his children from becoming reality. This, along with the gods’ manipulative nature that caused him to kill his wife and daughter, led to Kratos vowing to destroy all of the gods.
Special Abilities
As both a Spartan warrior and a demigod that later became the God of War for a period of time, one of Kratos’ most distinguishing features is his unparalleled amount of physical ability. While this certainly is true for simple strength, Kratos also shows that he is nearly impossible to kill - even before he was made immortal. Throughout his many different adventures, Kratos also gains an impressive arsenal of mythical weapons, though his most iconic weapon is the Blades of Chaos. This pair of chained blades were given to Kratos when he was working under the God of War. These weapons were forged in the heat of the Underworld, allowing its user to imbue their attacks with fire.
Other Important God of War Characters
Through Kratos’ trials and adventures, several characters aid him in many different ways. Two such characters are Athena and his son, Atreus.
Athena
Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom and a daughter of Zeus. When Zeus ordered the gods to find the child that was destined to kill him, Athena was sent along with Ares to take Deimos, Kratos’ brother. Ares nearly killed Kratos for trying to stop the gods from taking his sibling, but Athena persuaded Ares to stop his assault, sparing the young Spartan. Years later, Athena became much like an ally to Kratos by guiding him and providing useful information on his travels.
Atreus
Atreus is the son of Kratos and his second wife, Faye. After Faye’s death, Atreus and Kratos go on a journey to spread her ashes. The relationship between Atreus and his father is notably distant, as it is stated that Atreus learned most of the things he knows from his mother. That said, Kratos deeply cares for his son, though he can be quite harsh at times. As the two travel together, they learn to come closer and learn to know more about each other in the process.
