Zack Fair Final Fantasy (FF7) - Figures
Zack Fair is a recurring character in the world of the Final Fantasy series. He first appears in Final Fantasy VII as a non-playable character, but acts as the protagonist of the prequel to FFVII, Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-. This game was developed and published by Square Enix in 2007 and released for the PlayStation Portable. It tells the story of what happens before Avalanche and Cloud storm Shinra’s Mako Reactors and largely focuses on Zack’s struggles as a member of SOLDIER and his encounters with Genesis Rhapsodos. As the sole character who made Cloud who he is in Final Fantasy VII, it should be no surprise that Zack is a rather popular character among fans. As such, there is plenty of merchandise based on his character, with one particularly notable kind being collectible figures. One of the most popular figures based on Zack’s appearance is the “Play Arts Kai Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Zack Fair”.
Play Arts Kai Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Zack Fair Figure
The Play Arts Kai line of figures from Square Enix features characters from many different Square Enix properties and generally includes a wide range of articulation and various accessories that allow users to move a character in many different poses. This figure of Zack Fair is no different. The points of articulation in the joints along the figure’s body make it easy to recreate iconic scenes from Crisis Core -Final Fantasy-. This item also includes the instantly recognizable Buster Sword, the weapon used by Zack before he gave it to Cloud before the events in Final Fantasy VII took place.
Although some may consider this item to be a simple action figure, it is sculpted with much more detail than the average children’s toy and is certainly geared more toward avid collectors. Many aspects of Zack’s design from Crisis Core are recreated here. He wears his classic 1st Class SOLDIER uniform, which comes complete with a thick, black, sleeveless shirt, metallic pauldrons, baggy pants, and boots. Particular attention is given to his iconic black, spiky hair, which flows behind his head except for a single lock, which falls down in front of his face. Zack’s face also has a calm, confident expression, giving him a heroic aura.

About Zack Fair
Zack Fair is a character that originally appears for brief moments in Final Fantasy VII but acts as the protagonist in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy-.
Background
Early in his career as a member of SOLDIER, Zack was an optimist and had an excitable personality, which led his mentor, Angeal, to give him the nickname “Zack the Puppy”. He strives to become a First Class SOLDIER and always seeks to better himself. Zack is also greatly affected by Angeal’s personal values of dreams and honor and accepts them himself. After Angeal’s death, Zack received his Buster Sword, which Zack in turn gifts to Cloud in a similar manner.
Special Abilities
Although Zack is extremely proficient in physical combat and magic, Zack’s most unique ability is the “Digital Mind Wave”, which is Crisis Core’s take on Final Fantasy VII’s Limit Break system. This system is supposed to represent the thoughts going through Zack’s head as he battles and can be affected by his state of mind. Effects of the Digital Mind Wave can range from stat buffs, special attacks, and even level-ups. Each effect is determined by a slot machine-style system that has portraits of characters that Zack meets in his adventures cycling through each other until they all stop. Matching portraits will result in that character’s unique effect or attack to activate.
Other Important Final Fantasy VII Characters
Through his adventures, Zack meets a variety of different characters, with three of the most impactful being Cloud Strife and Aerith Gainsborough.
Cloud Strife
Cloud Strife is the main protagonist of Final Fantasy VII and, before becoming a mercenary that joined Avalanche, was a member of Shinra’s infantry that looked up to Zack for being a First Class SOLDIER. Cloud had strived to join Soldier himself but had failed to actually do so, causing him to settle for the position of an infantryman and avoiding returning to Nibelheim out of embarrassment. Zack and Cloud are both sent to Modeoheim, where they become well acquainted with each other. After Sephiroth’s attack on Nibelheim, Zack and Cloud attempt to take on Sephiroth and are both gravely injured, leading them to be captured and turned into test subjects. During Zack’s final stand against Shinra, he entrusts his Buster Sword to Cloud.
Aerith Gainsborough
Aerith Gainsborough is one of the characters that can join Cloud’s party in Final Fantasy VII and is also a significant character in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-. She is the last living example of a Cetra - an ancient race of people with the ability to interact with the spirit energy of the planet called the “lifestream”. Since Shinra desired to use this energy as Mako, Aerith was highly sought after by the company, though she was able to hide in the Sector 5 slums for a significant portion of her life. Here, she met Zack after he came crashing through the roof of the church in the area. Although their meeting was rather brief, Zack’s interactions with Aerith were significant, as Zack is the one who gives Aerith the signature pink ribbon that she wears in her hair. The two continue keeping in contact with one another and supporting each other in their times of need. One such example is when Zack visits Aerith for her comfort after his mentor, Angeal, had died. Their interaction was soon cut short, however, as he was sent to Nibelheim and was never heard from again.
