Kin-Iro Mosaic: Pretty Days is the original video animation of the popular manga, Kin-Iro Mosaic. Otherwise known as “Golden Mosaic” or Kinmoza, Kin-Iro Mosaic started off as a 4-panel manga written and illustrated by Yui Hara. The manga began serialization in June of 2010 and ran all the way until May of 2020. The popularity of the manga was the cause of an anime television series being created, which was aired by Studio Gokumi in 2013. The OVA, Kin-Iro Mosaic: Pretty Days was written by Yuniko Ayana and directed by Tensho. It was aired by Studio Gokumi in 2016. Background
Karen is very very close to Alice Cartelet. She has always admired Alice, always following her around and looking up to her. When Alice took an interest in Japanese culture Karen followed suit, with both girls having a deep interest in the topic. When Alice decides to go to Japan to live with Shinobu, Karen quickly drops everything in England to follow suit. Karen is incredibly carefree and excitable. She is never afraid to try something new, quickly gaining new hobbies and passions at the drop of a hat. Karen can come off as somewhat selfish and immature, but she places a high value on the people close to her. She is a loyal friend, going out of her way to make others happy.
Special Traits
Karen speaks broken Japanese when talking to her friends, but she is actually perfectly capable of speaking the language fluently. Funnily enough, all of the Japanese that Karen has learned was actually from reading a ton of manga! Karen is said to be inspired by the character Jotaro Kujo from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure due to her surname as well as being half English and half Japanese.

Five years ago, Alice was the host family for Shinobu Omiya, a Japanese girl who had a homestay experience in England. One day Alice decides that she wants to experience life in Japan, so she writes a letter to Shinobu saying that she’s going to Japan to live with her. She joins Shinobu and her friends at Shinobu’s high school. However, Alice is soon followed by Karen Kujo, who is also from England.
