Robot Spirits #159: Unicorn Gundam (Destroy Mode - Full Armor Compatible Ver.) Figure
This fully articulated figure from Bandai shows the series titular Gundam in its destroy mode. The crisp color scheme creates a bold effect, showcasing the goldenrod yellow of the split horn on the Gundam's head. Due to the cracked open nature of the Unicorn Destroy Mode, the figure features a high level of sculpting detail. Variation in depth gives the illusion that the figure can retract inward as the Gundam can in the series. The figure includes weaponry and interchangeable parts to recreate numerous battle scenes.

The Gundam Unicorn Series Story
Gundam Unicorn is a series that refers back to the events of the Universal Century timeline within the Gundam Universe. It explores the fallout of the One Year War and how its consequences impact the following generation.
Series Overview
Banagher Links, a student in the space colonies, decides to help the mysterious Audrey Burne prevent a war. After leaving on his journey, he becomes the pilot of the prototype Gundam Unicorn. As he travels to the sites of famous battles from the One Year War, he discovers a hidden history different from what he's learned in school. He learns the Gundam Unicorn has connections with a missing item called "Laplace's Box" that threatens the Federation's existence. Banagher and Audrey begin to question who they can trust and whether or not they should destroy the box or save it.
Series Characters
The story follows Banagher Links and Audrey Burne, children born at the end of the One Year War. Banagher grows up without parents or any knowledge of his family history. He learns that his father was head of the Vist Foundation, a trading company with heavy influence in the events shaping the Earth Sphere in the Universal Century. Audrey Burne poses as a civilian to hide her identity as the last surviving member of the Zabi family, Mineva Lao Zabi. Her kind, pacifist nature propels her to betray the will of her people and prevent another war.
The Gundam Unicorn Series Development
Gundam Unicorn originally existed as a semi-fan published light novel series. The first volume of the series came out in February 2007. It ran in Kadokawa's Gundam Ace magazine until August 2009.
Series Production
After the light novel's publication, the series received a manga adaptation that ran in Gundam Ace from January 2010 until December 2016. In 2010, the series also received a green light for an anime series. Bandai Entertainment intended the anime series to contain six 50-minute long episodes. However, in 2012 they announced the addition of a 90-minute seventh episode for the OVA series. The OVA aired from 2010 until 2012 under Bandai Entertainment before the company shut down in January.
The series resumed in August 2013 under the parent company, Sunrise. A rebroadcast of the series titled Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn RE:0096 aired on AsahiTV in 2016. The rebroadcast featured 22 episodes with some reanimated scenes, additional narrative sequences, and new opening and ending themes.
Series Reception
The series received widely positive reviews from fans and critics. Anime News Network gave the first OVA an overall "A" grade and praised the series for its emotional tone and crisp animation. The seventh episode earned ¥308 million in the Japanese box office upon its release.
