OtapediaCodsworth Fallout 4 - Figures

Fallout 4 is an entry in Bethesda’s Fallout series. Like the other games in the series, it is set in an alternate version of Earth that is devastated by nuclear war in 2077. The player controls a survivor that lives the devastating war by being cryogenically frozen in one of the many “Vaults” built to withstand a nuclear war. The gameplay is largely comparable to Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Players wander around an open world in either a first-person or third-person perspective and encounter a variety of mutated enemies and fight them off with an arsenal of different weapons. As an entry to an already popular franchise, it is no surprise that a wide range of merchandise was produced for fans to collect. One such type of merchandise is the collectible figure, which recreates popular characters from a given series. Codsworth, the robotic butler, is one such character that has several figures available for purchase. One popular figure of Codsworth is the “Pop! Games: Fallout 4 - Codsworth” figure from Funko, LLC.

Pop! Games: Fallout 4 - Codsworth Figure

This figure from Funko’s incredibly popular and wide-spread Pop! Games series of figures recreates Codsworth as a small, chibi-style figure. Many different aspects of Codsworth’s original design are preserved in this figure. These details range from his three legs, three eyes, main circular body, and thruster located in-between his robotic legs. This version of Codsworth has him wielding his signature circular saw and flamethrower, which are great for taking care of enemies the player may come across. The paint used to color this figure of Codsworth is shiny metallic silver, further emphasizing his robotic features. A section of clear vinyl attaches Codsworth to the base of the figure, which makes him appear to float in the air. Like with most Pop! figures, the main part of Codsworth’s body is enlarged while his legs are considerably shrunken, creating the super-deformed style that Funko’s Pop! figures are known for.

About Codsworth

Codsworth is a “Mister Handy” model of robot that is owned by the player’s character, the Sole Survivor. The loyal robot is a companion character that will follow the player in their adventures.

Background

Before the beginning of the Great War, the Sole Survivor purchased Codsworth to help his family with housework and other such tasks. Once the war started, the Sole Survivor was put into cryogenic stasis for over two-hundred years. Even though two centuries had passed, Codsworth remained at the player’s home. Once certain conditions have been met, Codsworth can join the player’s party as a companion.

Like other Mister Handy robots. Codsworth is a nuclear-powered machine that is able to use a variety of tools and perform an impressive variety of tasks. Their decisions and actions are made by an advanced type of artificial intelligence that acts much like a human brain. If it were not for the different types of limiters in its programming, these robots could achieve sentience. In fact, a small number of these robots have done just that by a combination of degradation, damage, and loopholes it discovers in its programming. Codsworth, however, is not one of these special cases and loyally aids the Sole Survivor without question.

Special Abilities

As the player explores the devastated world around them, Codsworth will give the player bottles of purified water that he pulls from groundwater from time to time. This means that Codsworth is capable of filtering out nuclear radiation, as drinking water that is not designated as purified will increase the player’s radiation meter. Codsworth also comes equipped with a saw and flamethrower, which make him a powerful companion early on in the game. If the player reaches the maximum affinity level with Codsworth, they will gain the “Robot Sympathy” perk, which provides extra damage resistance against energy attacks from robotic enemies.

Other Important Fallout 4 Characters

As a companion character, the only has a noteworthy amount of interaction with the player’s character, the Sole Survivor. That said, he does have passing interactions with other a few of the robot vendors in the Fallout world.

Sole Survivor

The Sole Survivor is the name used to refer to the character the player controls in Fallout 4. Many things about the character can be customized, including their sex, appearance, and name. Before the Great War, the Sole Survivor had a child named Shaun with their spouse and purchased Codsworth to help with housework. After being given pre-approved access to the nearby Vault 111, America was hit with nuclear explosions, forcing them to make their way to the shelter. The Sole Survivor and their family were then put into cryogenic stasis for nearly two-hundred years. When the Sole Survivor is briefly revived, they witness the murder of their spouse and the kidnapping of their child before being put back into stasis. When they are finally able to escape their cryogenic prison, they find themselves the only person left in the Vault. When they find their way out, they set out to find their spouse’s murderer and their kidnapped son.

Robot Vendors

Throughout the world of Fallout 4, the player will come across several different robots that sell various items. If Codsworth is in the player’s party, they will briefly converse with the merchants. One example of such a character Takahashi, the noodle chef from Diamond City. If Codsworth is in the player’s party, he will take note of Takahashi’s severe malfunctions. Another vendor the player can find in Covenant is Deezer, another Mister Handy unit that sells lemonade. Despite these two being robots, Deezer will attempt to sell Codsworth a drink, leading Codsworth to deem his programming too damaged to converse with.
