Kaguya-sama: Love is War Chika Fujiwara: Swimsuit Ver. 1/7 Scale Figure

This figure shows Chika Fujiwara, the secretary of the Shuchiin Academy student council, in an incredibly attractive swimsuit. The Kaguya-sama: Love is War Series Story

Much of the story of Kaguya-sama: Love is War surrounds the humorous antics that arise between Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane as they attempt to get the other to confess their feelings for one another.

Series Overview

Kaguya Shinomiya is a young woman from the unbelievably influential Shinomiya family and attends Shuchiin Academy, an incredibly prestigious private school that is generally only acceptable to the rich and powerful. Here, she joins the school’s student council and meets Miyuki Shirogane, a young man with little prestige, yet managed to work his way to the top of his class through hard work and determination. Although the two end up developing romantic feelings for one another, they cannot bring themselves to tell the other. As such, both Kaguya and Miyuki attempt to devise clever tricks and methods to get the other to confess first, resulting in unusual, yet amusing situations.

Series Characters

Since most of the series takes place in the Shuchiin Academy student council room, most of the major characters in the series are members of the student council. Miyuki and Kaguya hold the titles of president and vice-president respectively, but there are a number of other members as well. Chika Fujiwara is a fun-loving, energetic girl that often throws wrenches into both Miyuki and Kaguya’s plans and also acts as secretary of the student council. The student council treasurer, Yu Ishigami, is a reserved, pessimistic young man that is fond of video games and incredibly skilled with processing information.

The Kaguya-sama: Love is War Series Development

Today, Kaguya-sama: Love is War has over two-hundred chapters of manga that have been published since its first chapter in 2015. The following passages give a brief summary of the conception of the series and general reception from its fans.

Series Production

When first creating the concept for a new work to be published, the author of Kaguya-sama: Love is War originally intended to create a more fantastical series, but was persuaded by his editor to take on something a bit more grounded in reality. The idea he came up with was heavily inspired by the mental battles found in other series like Death Note, but based on romantic conflict. The manga began serialization in the seinen magazine, Miracle Jump in 2015, but was later printed in Weekly Young Jump, where chapters are still being serialized as of early 2021. The anime adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures aired from January to March 2019 and was directed by Shinichi Omata. A second season was later produced and aired from April to June 2020.

Series Reception

Reception for both the manga series and the anime adaptation are quite positive, with many fans stating that the series’ concept is a unique take on the romantic comedy genre, though the original creator disagrees with this statement. As of late 2020, the manga had over thirteen million volumes in print. Furthermore, the manga has received several awards for its accomplishments. Such awards include the 3rd Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Award and the 65th Shogakukan Manga Award.
