Beerus Dragon Ball Super - Figures
Famed for the often over-the-top and out of control heroes and villains, the Dragon Ball series doesn’t pull any punches when introducing new characters. In the Dragon Ball universe, it’s often as easy as pointing a finger to make things blow up; things like rocks and people, or giant rocks with people on them—like Earth. The near-constant threat of global annihilation is the ever-looming problem that colors the series. The danger may be terrestrial, such as the Red Ribbon Army (not exactly world-destroying, but conquering) or Cell (from another time, but made on Earth); or extraterrestrial such as Frieza, or Majin Buu. Galactic criminal overlords like Frieza and magical avatars of chaos like Majin Buu are bad enough, but what happens when a literal God—Of Destruction—comes to Earth and demands to see the Super Saiyan God, lest he erases the planet? That’s when Goku and the gang get serious and come up with a plan to get the dangerous deity exactly what he wants. Beerus had an enormous impact on the Dragon Ball universe and here are three figures that show different sides of his deadly divinity. Bandai’s “S.H.Figuarts Dragon Ball Super Beerus”, Banpresto’s “Dragon Ball Super World Collectable Figure Anime 30th Anniversary Vol. 5”, and MegaHouse’s “Yura Colle Series Dragon Ball Super Box Set”.
S.H.Figuarts Dragon Ball Super Beerus Figure
There’s little much else to say about Beerus than that he is extremely dangerous. Not only does he have the express right from heaven to erase planets as he sees fit (in order to keep balance in the cosmos) but he does so with an extremely short temper. Beerus will erase a planet at the drop of a hat. Usually, he will do this by making a ball of destructive energy using his index finger, much like a Supernova attack used by Frieza’s family. This figure shows just that; the moments before Beerus uses his ‘Hakai’ to erase something or someone. Fully articulated and typical of the S.H. Figuarts series, this figure is no exception when it comes to the availability of poses possible. Expertly painted and crafted, a joy to display.

Dragon Ball Super World Collectable Figure Anime 30th Anniversary Vol. 5
Beerus can smile, he does have a more casual and amicable side too. Is it an amicable smile or is it a smirk though? 7cm and on a plastic pedestal, Banpresto’s collectable miniature could be either way. Left hand out in front, Beerus could very possibly (and more than likely) be preparing to ‘Hakai’ (erase) something beneath him. He might also be mid-fight and enjoying it. It’s difficult to tell with such a maliciously fickle character.

Yura Colle Series Dragon Ball Super Box Set (Re-run)
Finally the last side of Beerus. Aside from all of the destruction and ‘levelling out the universe’, Beerus loves nothing more than food and napping. This could be due to the fact that he is a cat, but he slept through the entirety of the Majin Buu Saga even though he was at risk of disappearing if the Supreme Kai were to die. In more relative terms, Beerus slept for roughly 35 years (almost the whole time Goku has been alive). 80mm and sculpted to show perfect feline relaxation. This figure isn’t the only one in the set though, there are four other figures to collect, just like this one, but perhaps less catty.

About Beerus
Beerus is a god that appears first in the Dragon Ball Z movie Battle of Gods and remains a staple character throughout the Dragon Ball Super animation and even now in the ongoing manga series. Fickle and ill-tempered, Beerus is like to erase planets on a whim. Owing to his role as God of Destruction, it appears that his judgements, immoral as they may seem, are divinely justified.
Background
Purple, skinny and resembling a cat; Beerus has been touted as the most accomplished fighter in the Dragon Ball series so far. So much so that in the manga series before the Tournament of Power, all 12 Gods of Destruction had an exhibition match in which Beerus and Quitela (slightly the worse for wear) were the last two standing. Beerus loves to sleep though and slept the whole time Goku was alive. Waking up to find that Frieza has been killed and Majin Buu defeated, Beerus is somewhat shocked.
Special Abilities
Apart from being an incredibly overpowered character in all aspects (strength, speed, ki, etc) Beerus also has the ability to ‘Hakai’ (erase) things or people from existence. This is different from a normal ki attack as this is an ability exclusive to Gods of Destruction. As an attack, ‘Hakai’ energy can be overpowered depending on the strength of the character that it’s used on Goku and Frieza both manage to overpower a ‘Hakai’ attack.
Other Important Dragon Ball Super Characters
Beerus is not alone though, as all Gods of Destruction are to be paired with an accompanying angel. If the god is to perish or the Kai that they are linked to perishes, the angel must return to heaven and await the appointment of a new God. Beerus loves to fight though, and Whis is leagues above him in strength, so fighting or training with Whis is probably not a very exciting prospect. However, there is a certain Saiyan on Earth that reinvigorated the jaded and ill-tempered Beerus’ fighting spirit and even forced him to use up to 70% of his power.
Whis
Whis is the angel that is appointed to Beerus until he dies or a new God is chosen. An avid lover of cuisine and Earth being apparently the most delicious planet in the universe, Whis spends a great deal of time there enjoying a number of culinary escapes with the daughter of Capsule Corporation, Bulma. The two even become so well acquainted that Bulma can call Whis when something is wrong, leading Beerus in turn to being dragged to Earth with him.
Son Goku
There’s not much to say about Goku other than he is a slightly air-headed, pure-hearted, fighting genius. Born into the warrior Saiyan race and being gifted with a predisposition towards hard work, Goku quickly overcomes all odds and defeats the most terrifying of enemies—just not Beerus. Using the Super Saiyan God form Goku manages to hold his own against a 70% power Beerus. After Goku achieved Ultra Instinct in the tournament of power, however, Beerus couldn't hide his surprise. Beerus after all has only an imperfect Ultra Instinct as seen in the manga.
