The Attack on Titan series is a popular manga series created by Hajime Isayama and published in late 2009. The manga drew in an incredible amount of readers, which eventually culminated in an anime adaptation airing in April 2013. After the first season aired, the Attack on Titan franchise became a worldwide phenomenon, resulting in several sequel anime seasons being produced. Currently, there are thirty tankoban volumes of the manga that have been published, as well as four seasons of the anime adaptation, multiple video games, and other various media projects that have been produced.

With the success of the franchise, a wide range of products have been created to satisfy the fans’ desire for merchandise. One of the most popular kinds of merchandise fans like to collect are figures of popular characters from the series. One of the most recognizable characters from the series is the Colossal Titan, which may be nearly as recognizable as the protagonist, Eren Yeager. Out of the handful of figures of the Colossal Titan, two of the most popular include the “Nendoroid Colossal Titan & Attack on Titan Playset” and the “BE@RBRICK 1000% Colossal Titan | Attack on Titan”.

Nendoroid Colossal Titan & Attack on Titan Playset Figure

This set from Good Smile Company’s Nendoroid line of figures takes the gigantic Colossal Titan and shrinks it down into a tiny, ten-centimeter tall figure. Like all of the other entries in the Nendoroid figures, this recreation of the Colossal Titan uses a simplified, chibi-style design that makes use of a larger head, smaller body, and shortened limbs. Despite the simplified appearance, this figure is still sculpted with a great amount of detail.

This set also includes a variety of accessories as well. Aside from the figure of the Colossal Titan itself, two separate miniature Titan figures are also included. Furthermore, a variety of human miniatures also add extra variety to this set. Each miniature is unique and depicts both civilians living inside the walls and members of the military fighting against the Titans.

BE@RBRICK 1000% Colossal Titan | Attack on Titan Figure

This unique figure is a massive entry into Medicom Toy’s series of BE@RBRICK figures, which are designed to look like a fusion between a teddy bear and Medicom’s Kubrick block figures. This recreation of the Colossal Titan sports many of the standard cosmetic features of a BE@RBRICK figure, like the two large ears found on its head - a feature nowhere present in the original Titan’s design, a large, pudgy belly, and simple articulated joints that allow the user to move the figure’s limbs back and forth. Although the colors and details of the BE@RBRICK figures are much simpler than others on the market, this entry makes up for it in its sheer size. This Colossal Titan stands at an impressive 700 millimeters (around 27.6 inches), which would allow it to tower over nearly any other figure in one’s collection.

About the Colossal Titan

The Colossal Titan is one of the Nine Titans that was created by the death of the first person to use the powers of the Titans, Ymir Fritz. The following description is a short overview of the Colossal Titan and its abilities.

Background

After the death of Ymir Fritz, the ability to turn into Titans was shared with nine people, creating the Nine Titans. With the exceptions of the Attack Titan and the Founding Titan, Marley controlled all of the Nine Titans, including the Colossal Titan. In an attempt to retrieve the powers of the other two Titans, Marley sent their Warrior unit to locate and forcibly take the owners of the individual powers. This group of Warriors included Annie Leonhart, Reiner Braun, and Bertolt Hoover, the inheritor of the Colossal Titan at the time.

Special Abilities

Although all Titans are considered giant compared to normal human proportions, the size of the Colossal Titan dwarfs even the tallest of standard Titans, as it is a massive sixty meters tall. The Titan’s incredible size gives it quite the destructive potential, which is used to great effect to breach the Walls. Aside from its sheer size, this Titan also has other unique abilities. Two such abilities are the incredible amount of energy that is released when its user transforms and an increased ability to generate steam once transformed.

Other Important Attack on Titan Characters

Although Bertolt, and therefore the Colossal Titan, is aligned with Annie and Reiner, two other notable characters have interesting encounters with the Colossal Titan. These two characters are Eren Yeager and Armin Arlert.

Eren Yeager

Eren is the main protagonist of Attack on Titan and was present when the Colossal Titan first breached the Walls. From this day on, Eren became obsessed with taking down the Titans for destroying his home. Eren later encounters the Colossal Titan again after graduating from the Training Corps, though is unable to land the finishing blow. Eventually, however, Eren succeeds in defeating Bertolt’s Colossal Titan by extracting Bertolt from the Titan’s body and allowing Armin to inherit the Titan’s power.

Armin Arlert

Armin, like Mikasa Ackerman, is one of Eren’s childhood friends and is the one that first sparked Eren’s interest in the outside world. As a member of the Survey Corps, he is renowned for his ability as a strategist and is often asked to create plans for the rest of his unit. Armin is also the first person to notice that the Colossal Titan’s ability to create steam results in a loss of muscle, leading to a strategy to defeat the massive Titan. Although Armin was nearly killed in this operation, Eren convinces Captain Levi Ackerman to use a vial of Titan injection on Armin, allowing him to inherit Bertolt’s Colossal Titan power.
