The Captain Marvel Series Story
The story of Captain Marvel begins far before the release of the Captain Marvel film. In fact, the first appearance of Carol Danvers was in the Marvel Comics series all the way back in March of 1968.
Series Overview
The story of Captain Marvel starts on Hala, the capital planet of the Kree Empire. Vers, a member of Starforce, suffers from recurring amnesia and nightmares about an old woman. During a mission for the Kree Empire, Vers is captured and her memories are probed, leading her captors to Earth. Vers then manages to escape, but she crash lands in Los Angeles, California. After, she is discovered by S.H.I.E.L.D agents Nicky Fury and Phil Coulson, who then set off on a path to help Vers find the secrets of her past.
Series Characters
The story of the Captain Marvel film surrounds Carol Danvers and her search to uncover her past. She is assisted by two agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Nick Fury and Phil Couson. Nick Fury, who would later become the director of S.H.I.E.L.D, was at the time only a low-level bureaucrat. Vers’ homeland of Kree is fighting against the Skrulls, whose shape-shifting leader Talos takes the form of Fury’s boss, Keller.
The Captain Marvel Series Development
The development of the 2019 Captain Marvel film began back in May of 2013. The film was then officially announced in October of 2014, with actress Brie Larson being announced as the role of Carol Danvers in 2016 at the San Diego Comic-Con. A sequel for the film is scheduled to release on November 11th, 2022.
Series Production
Captain Marvel was written and directed by Anna Borden and Ryan Fleck. Nicole Perlman, Meg LeFauve, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet were also large contributors to the screenplay. The story of the film borrows a lot of elements from the “Kree-Skrull War” comic book storyline written by Roy Thomas in 1971.
Series Reception
The Captain Marvel film grossed over 1.1 billion dollars worldwide. It was the first female-led superhero film to ever pass the 1 billion dollar mark. In fact, it was also the fifth-highest grossing film of 2019, as well as the 23rd highest-grossing film of all time during its theatrical run. The critical reception of the film has been very positive. In particular, Brie Larson has received a lot of praise for her role as Carol Danvers.
