Marvel Comics is one of the most important publishers of comic books in America and has become well-known the world over thanks to its massively popular superhero universe. Founded in 1939, the company’s modern incarnation owes much to the innovations of comic pioneer Stan Lee who oversaw the creation of such iconic superhero franchises as The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, X-Men, Wolverine, Thor, Hulk, Deadpool, Ant-Man and Daredevil among many others.

Marvel was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2009 and has recently enjoyed worldwide success with a series of interconnected movies based on their superhero properties including The Avengers and its sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: The First Avenger and sequel The Winter Soldier, and Guardians of the Galaxy among many others.
